LOCI DISH
I have been trying to reach my friend who is the administrative assistant to one of the vice presidents of scheduling at NBC. Lo and behold the sweet woman called me last night. SO here's a little of the inside dish for LOCI.
This is in my language no Television inside Lingo she used at me. Apparently there was a HUGE meeting of the powers that be in Los Angeles between NBC and all its affiliates. Ignoring the other stations I'm concentrating on what she said about USA.
All their shows but LOCI got the automatic 5% raise and signed quickly. Monk of course was Tony wanting to move on so he agreed to final season now he's done.
The greedy bastards of the PTB have taken months to work this out.
This business with LOCI is all about the bottom line of course. LOCI made USA therefore NBC stockholders the most money for a scripted drama or comedy on USA, so they did not want to cancel it. However, where the other USA stars make at the most $200,000 an episode and most much less, Vincent & Kate were making around $350,000 an episode plus Vince took a percent of the show last season in lieu of a raise. Goldblum pulled fair ratings at $175,000 an episode. So the decision was made to slash the stars salaries and make more money for the stockholders while keeping the shows numbers up. More money is paid by advertisers for new LOCI episode than any other new episode shows.
There were several proposals made, presented to the stars and rejected by brass by the stars or by Dick Wolf.
Kate and Vincent take a half pay cut--rejected.
Goren is killed and the circumstance cause Alex and Ross to quit.--rejected
All three killed in bomb blast or shoot out--rejected.
Let Kate go and Vince stay without a partner--he rejected.
Vince disappears like Logan. Kate stays as Jeff's partner--she rejected.
So they hashed and rehashed and finally came up with keeping status quo for the March half of season. 3 Stars leaving then -- writers to work out. Goren to leave where he can come back an make guest appearances. HOW that's for the writers to figure out.
This way they hold on to Vincent in the event Goldblum bombs and the show tanks they will have Vincent to bring the numbers back.
Vince gets a percent of the show to hold him to a loose contract.
So there you have it. We should have Bobby, Alex and Ross for the first episodes and then Bobby as a special guest star during the last half.
Vincent has supposedly given a verbal agreement to this. NOTHING has been signed. Not even Goldblum.
She got to meet him in NYC. She said he was unbelievably sexy and charming AND THAT VOICE. Said when he talks to you he stares deep into your eyes and your knees turn to jelly. He kissed her hand. Such a gentleman. She says she's in love with him and she's only 26.
Well I guess we will wait and see NBC's PTB seem to believe movie star Jeff Goldblum will pick up the gauntlet and keep LOCI as a hit for USA. We'll see.
Will you watch the TV guide for episodes where Vincent is Special Guest Star?
