There's an interesting interview with William Petersen in today's (Feb.3, 2005) USA TODAY. (I'd include the link, but have all sorts of trouble dealing with the internet version of this paper.) In it he sounds rather resigned to dealing with the network and producers, and it's revealed that he had a health scare some time last year (no details). His remarks are reminiscient of some of Mr. D'Onofrio's.

He had a health scare? Hmmm... wonder what happened. Yes, I've read in interviews with Petersen that he'll be ready to leave the series when his contract is up. Sad really, cause that'll probably mark the end of the show, imo. He had big problems with the spin-offs and I think he made his feelings more than known to Bruckheimer et al. Petersen one of the producers of CSI isn't he? Have to admit, I've been a fan of CSI Vegas since the begining as well, but this season 5 has not really grabbed me with any "WOWSERing" episodes. I am, however, looking forward to finding out what Sara's problem has been in tonight's episode. Somthing with her parents and being in foster system for a while, I think. Will it be Grissom to the rescue?!? *smirk* Knowing him, probably not...

Will it be Grissom to the rescue?!? *smirk* Knowing him, probably not... Could you fill me in on Sara's problem? I had to take a telephone call and missed about 15 minutes after the hallway scene. So, Grissom did come to Sara's rescue! ;D

I think Sara never really specified but I think she was raised by foster parents. She was looking in the mirror, pretending she was talking to Grissom, saying she has a "me problem, not a drinking problem". There's only clues so far. Hopefully we get more information before this season is over.
Hope that helped!

Just heard on Yahoo that Quentin Tarantino is going to guest direct and write the CSI Original season finale this year. Cool beans!

Quentin Tarantino has signed to direct the season-finale episode of primetime's most-watched series, CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
Tarantino also has come up with an original story for the episode, which is expected to shoot in early April and air May 19, according to "CSI" executive producer Carol Mendelsohn.
Tarantino has long been a fan of the stylish forensic drama as series creator/executive producer Anthony Zuiker learned when he bumped into Tarantino at an awards show during "CSI's" first season. They have pursued him to direct an episode for some time, and after members of the "CSI" crew ran into Tarantino a few weeks ago while the show was doing some location shooting in Las Vegas, the stars finally aligned for him to helm the show's fifth-season closer, Mendelsohn said.
"He knows everything there is to know about 'CSI,' and he is into the whole mythology of 'CSI,"' Mendelsohn said. "Quentin came in a couple of weeks ago. We had a story meeting with the writers. He had a great idea, and it was so much fun to have him in the room. . . . We are positively giddy."
Zuiker, in particular, "worships Quentin," she added.
Mendelsohn said the story will involve a plot that finds one of the key members of the CSI team, led by Gil Grissom (William Petersen), in serious jeopardy.
"There will be more bugs and blood this time," Mendelsohn joked.
Tarantino, who earned an Oscar for co-writing the screenplay to his 1994 smash "Pulp Fiction," directed a 1995 episode of "ER" and appeared as a guest actor on ABC's "Alias" in 2002 and last year. His other features include the "Kill Bill" films, "Jackie Brown" and "Reservoir Dogs."

I hate to disagree with Dom, whose opinions I respect a great deal (and not just cause we usually agree), but I find Tarantino to be a horribly overrated director. And it's not the violence in his films--I just don't find any originality in his work. Patcat

It's all good, Pat, as the modern expression goes. Disagree, and do it ernestly with no fear. It could turn out that the finale of CSI could suck rocks and be totally stupid. In that case, everyone can throw lots of tomatoes my direction. Then I make a big sauce (gravy) and some pasta, and we have a party. And if the finale is really neat and cool, then we enjoy it and have a party. D.

I didn't see his ER episode; so I can't comment on that. I guess for me; it hits. I really get into all his flicks, esp. R.Dogs - I like the camera work, the grit & spit. But I can see where a body would think it was just dramatic & not new.
Gotta say - Kill Bill was up there for me too ...... but that can't be a surprise.
I NEVER watch CSI; but if given enough advance warning by you guys -I would like to watch this episode. HINT.

Now thats something I didn't expect to see about CSI. I've only seen pieces of Tarantino's work, so I can't really make a judgement call "yea or nea" on that.
But I do know he's pretty gritty and from what they've said about more bugs and blood...i guess we can get ready for a "gore match."
I don't gross-out easily with the CSIs, but after seeing this past Wed ep of CSI:NY (which doesn't rate very high on my TV list, but I was bored...so.. eh) I think they took a stride over the "ICK" line when they raised the train-sized cargo box down at the loading docks and found "pancake man" under it!
Com'on now...did we really need to see a body smashed flat by a 2 ton cargo container...all the ick and goo factors firmly placed in?
*cringe*

meltex; he he - pancake man. I think I may have watched one full episode and just flicked through and seen a scene or two otherwise .... all that fancy smancy stuff and the sound effects of body trama - well it just ain't so. Not only is it goo and ick and I agree over the line, it is also mondo made up. Well, I suppose there would be a pancake man under that thing, some things may be close, but all that drama crap - ooo too much to take.
but I gotta watch the Q dude. That should be an interesting discussion for us once it airs ....

Hey, I really like Tim Burton's work, and I know a lot of people who don't like his work at all. Idea--Tim Burton directing an episode of LOCI--whoa!
There's been several articles recently about CBS pressuring CSI NY to lighten up, both in production and story lines. The show's ratings have apparently been dropping steadily since its debut, and the executives think that its darkness may be the cause.

Yea, I agree Metella--they tend to fake-up the body scenes in the CSIs, and most of it I can go along with as long as I can watch the procedure. But "pancake man", yea...I think CSI:NY deserves to get a slap from the Network for that, just from pure viewer gross-out. *Ick* I'll definitely watch the Q episode, I'm sure he'll bring some new, different things to the table that will be pretty cool to see. I'm always up for a little action...in my CSI and CI shows, that is. *grin* Hey, wonder what it would be like if Tarantino directed a CI ep?

Metella: You think the Q man would give Goren more "big guns" to play with? *evil grin*
Hey, that would probably be a pretty freakin' cool CI episode! D'Onofrio would have to get on his tread mill, build up some endurance...*giggle j/k*
