Okay with all the CSI talk, I just had to start this thread to give the writers of Monk huge props for teasing the crap out of the CSI shows.
That "spectroscope" part had me rolling....
Monk: " What is THAT!" pointing to the csi's running a metal dectector hooked up with black lights over a wall which then detects a fiber and analyzes it.
Sharona: "It's a spectroscope. It helps them sovle the crime. We should get one."
Monk: "Sure, we'll get two."
I'm so down with the Monk love.

hee hee!! ;D I thought I saw a bit of our Goren in that episode, too, huh? Think Shalhoub contacted his buddy when they were making that! The guy is such a spoof.

Oh man, how'd you like to see THOSE two together, Monk and Goren? Goren would be messing with the wounds and turning everything all over, Monk would be having heart failure. Sharona and Eames, meanwhile, would roll their eyes and go for a commiserating drink. If you go to the NPR website and look up Tony SHalhoub there are several interviews with him--I think on Fresh Air but possibly Morning Edition. www.npr.org for those interested.

Thanks Catbird, for the link. You also hit on something that I always wonder about, which is combining two major characters of two major shows together. Some people I know think of "Monk" as almost a comedy, and I can understand that opinion. But, I also think they do a really good job of showing the brilliance of the character, balanced by his disorder. I see Goren as coming close to going over that edge sometimes, and your suggestion of those two together really is intriguing to me. I am not sure how that could ever happen but I really would like to see the interaction. I am curious, though, do other posters think this would dilute the realism of LOCI? I am reminded of the episode with Brisco and Green. Goren seemed genuinely amused and respectful of Lenny.
I will do my best to not overstate this, but Goren seems to sublimate his ego to finding the truth in any circumstance. I think he would be captivated by Adrian and his thought processes.

Well, I meant it as a joke, but it could be interesting. Monk may have his issues, but he has been able to overcome them when he absolutely has to--the ferris wheel to help Sharona. And Goren may have his own style, but he is nothing if not versatile, willing to tweak a bit to get to the root of the issue. Monk would go for the physical evidence of what's out of place, Goren would aim psychologically. Hey, all your bases covered!
Although I highly doubt if this would ever happen. Different networks, completely different styles. If anything it'd be a TV movie where the actors just wanted to have fun. But I have a feeling that Balcer would have a coronary, as would Dick Wolf, if anything so silly got invovled with a Law & Order franchise.

They should be on SNL together and do it as a skit. I still remember the SNL skit with David Soul. They called it Staircase and Hutch, and one of the partners was a piece of furniture. I can still hear the classic line, " Don't worry Hutch, it's only a shelf wound."

HA! Now THAT would be funny! It's the perfect forum to get them together, the actors have worked together a couple times and both have such humor. Has SNL ever done a spoof on either show? I'd watch that, too. They've included 'Peanuts' characters now, so I guess anything goes! ("...Peppermint Patty and Marcy are moving to Massachusets.").

Oh, that would be the way to do it! Everybody keep an eye out and if any relevant guests are on keep us posted.
BUt I can't believe the liberties they took with Peanuts! Blasphemy!! Peppermint Patty and Marcie aren't gay, that's almost as bad as the stink about Bert and Ernie! But I do remember the SNL tribute right after Charles Schulz died. And I remember ESPN doing their end of the year tribute to the sports figures who had died--Charles Schulz was listed, and they showed an animated clip of Charlie Brown (getting knocked down!)at the pitcher's mound. THat was classy.

Oooh, those previews did seem funny--marital counseling. (Some sort of undercover work?) But that's the same time "West Side Story" is shown on TCM, one of my favorites. Decisions decisions....but since I have "West Side Story" on tape, that solves that problem!
Peopel in my family LOVE "O Brother WHere Art Thou," especially John Turturro. THe one person who isn't a fan of the movie was the one who saw Pete as Monk's brother. THe episode was a little iffy, but it was interesting to see the reactions.
Captain Stottlemeyer: "Well, thank you Ambrose. You've answered several questions I had--and raised about a hundred more."
[Sharona suddenly seizes Monk in a tight hug as they leave Ambrose's house.] Monk: What are you doing?!?! Sharona: Thank you. Monk: For what? Sharona: FOr making my family seem normal.

I can't believe it's the season finale already... well considering when the season actually started, yes I can. But I am going to miss the crap out of this show, so it's still too soon. For those who like me will be jonesing for more Monk, I hear the season one dvd set is out and it comes with a complimentary bottle of hand sanitizer. One more reason to LOVE this show. Tonight's ep: Mr. Monk Goes to Jail

Well, maybe they won't break the season in half for you like they did to us. That really sucked, and I don't know how it helped the show, USA or anyone else.
