Has anybody else checked this series out? I watched a couple of early episodes and wasn't terribly impressed, but then last week a friend brought over a tape and we had a little Huff-a-thon and I am hooked!
It definitely takes a few episodes to find its groove, but once it does, WOW.
The writing and acting are absolutely superb, with stand-out performances by Blythe Danner as Hank Azaria's narcissistic, alcoholic, wounded, outspoken mother and by Oliver Platt as Azaria's high-functioning boozer/drug addict, lawyer friend of huge appetites and personality.
Supporting cast is uniformly great.
Hank Azaria, as the title character -- Huff -- a psychiatrist who, in many ways, is the least interesting of the characters, is good too. It's fitting that, as a shrink, he's something of a blank slate and a lightening rod for the issues and turmoil of those around him. Be warned, the characters aren't politically correct. But while their flaws and insensitivities may make me cringe, laugh and shake my head, it's always very real.
Just wondering what others on this board think of the show.

Unfortunately I don't have cable yet, but this sounds great. If or when D'Onofrio leaves LOCI, I would recommend they look towards Platt for a quirky cop if they want to stay with the quirky type.
