To answer NicoleMarie's question on the Town Hall thread... Simply find an image/gif you like, right click on it to get the properties and paste said properties between [_img_] and [_/img_] The _ are simply for illustration purposes; just use img and /img.

Hi, Nikki, Thanks for posting the links... but I’ve run across something that may be a bit of a problem, as far as using pictures from those links as avatars on this site, rather than using them as background, or wallpaper, or other types of pictures on your own computer or website. I couldn’t actually find your butterfly at the first link you gave. So I checked the properties on your picture, and followed the link there to the site where I actually found it, at www.internetclipart.com – a website that specifically asks people not to link directly to their site, as it uses up their bandwidth. I also found a similar message on the 4th website you listed, getfreeimages.tripod.com/gifs.htmlThese websites provide free clipart only in the sense that they allow people to copy/download the art freely and use it freely on their own computers and/or websites. They don’t mean to host the images for people to link to from other sites. I checked the other sites – except for the Geocities site, which I couldn’t access. I kept getting a page that said, “The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer,” which may relate to the bandwidth issue (I don’t know enough about these things to be sure). The other sites all only talked about people copying or downloading their images. There weren’t any clear messages against linking to them, the way there were on the first two I checked, but I also didn’t see anything that gave permission to link to them. So I’m concerned that even the other sites you’ve listed aren’t actually sites where people are supposed to use the images the way we use them here, by creating a link to them. I think there is a free site where you can get an account, and use it to host images that you can then link to. I tried to sign up once, but my computer kept crashing because the site was too complex for it to cope with. I’ll look for the URL for it, if anyone is interested.

Observer, Thanks for letting me know that my current butterfly was no longer free. The original post was for a different one. All those sites came up for free gifs and images. Some may be since changed. There was previously no mention of hot-linking. This one came up under those "free" searches today: www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/5577/Another one that's definitely free is www.123greetings.com

Nikki, I’m sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. Your new avatar is lovely, but the other one was exquisite. I hope you check out the free hosting website, so you can get the other one back again. The site is img.photobucket.com, and you would probably have better luck getting an album set up than I did.

No worries, O. I've changed back to my original one, for the time being. Nice looking dog you have there, Cassie.
