I agree, LOCIfan. The thing is I think she's trying to create the character of a cop who is numb because she is jaded, seen it all and nothing shocks this tough nyc cop. But it is coming across as detached and unlikeable.
The choice itself is not a creative one, in my opinion. NYC PD are tough, jaded and have probably seen it all and certainly all police dramas have a character like that so what's new? Erbe plays it tough too. But she gives Eames humour, macabre and blunt as it is which attracts us, the viewers, to her character. Mostly Eame's humour shows us that crap people and bad choices are part of the human condition and no matter how many times Eames sees it, she still reacts as a humane person to people and the things they do.

I also didn't get to watch this as it aired. I have always enjoyed the Logan character, so I have always been fine with Logan, and he didn't change significantly - so same old interesting, good cop Logan.
Barek, time for some drama - time for a MC detective to get shot - dead or just Out of Action - it is really time & seg in with new Logan partner. This is not to bash the actress; but some things don't fit & this is not infused with enough energy & it has fallen flat too many times now. Is it the writing, probably not. Is it the director, I think so a little. Is it the actress, I thnk so a little. So whatever the REAL reason is; it is time for a shake down.

I got to see this episode and to be completely honest I thought it was by far the worst in terms of seeing Barek with emotion, it was like watching a robot out there. I dont know what it is about Sciorra, but she is just not picking it up enough, she is not playing a character with no emotion, that would be dumb for the writers to do, there has to be something somewhere and she is lacking. I, to hope that something happens, perhaps she gets a call back from the FBI or something, but if they are going to keep this format into next season and beyond they need to find Logan a better match. Someone with a little life. Sciorra has actually fallen to the bottom of my list of characters, she is below Samantha Buck, whom I didnt like too much at first, but grew to like more towards the end of her stay, but I dont see that happening with Sciorra, she is seemingly becoming more and more lifeless with each ep. It needs to end !!!

So, what are you saying, psychochik? Is it time to vote her off the island?

Lol ;D I didn't mean to imply that! I was just itching to start a Barek poll, but people kept saying it was too early to tell what she was like. I was took your comments as my cue

I do actually think it is too early to decide to vote her off but I see narrow choices so far. When I think of interesting women characters law and order has tons of them, too many for me to let the approach to this character slide by. Most of the ADA's were pretty sad but the ME, on L&O and L&O SVU rocks as does Eames. Mariska Hargitay's character did too although lately SVU has been getting way too soapy and the woman seargent Lenny and Green used to have was great. They all came off a smart and focused. Barek comes off as smart, even a bit Monk/Goren idiosyncratic but a bit too much like she's suffering for her job. You know when the detective has seen it all and every case is just a case to illustrate some crap episode of the character's life that either gave him/her a massive chip to deal with, or triggers bouts of weeping/whiskey drinking. It loses the detective fictional pace and veers the plot around the character rather than around an interesting crime story which I think is what makes years of L&O episodes still so interesting.
Barek needs to just do. her. job.
and then, just like another working stiff, go home and pet her cat or go out with the girls for a martini, or something regular and mundane (which I don't need to see in full blown scene I just need to get the gist of Barek as a balanced, working girl who is better than average at her job)

I admit that I am disliking Barek more and more each week. With disliking pretty, pretty Logan, I don't know how I'll manage to watch the show if they don't give her more pep. But comparing her to Eames isn't fair. Its like comparing raisins to grapes. (I don't like raisins. All dry and depressed looking. See what I mean?)
