Yes, we decided as a group to give you the silent treatment You know I'm only joking! I'm sorry you've been feeling that way, Rom. I have read every single post on this board, and usually have remark for every one of them, but I don't often have time to post. When I do have the time, I keep getting kicked off the net by my crappie ISP. One more reason to compose in Word, Marie! BTW, welcome to the board (a little late)

Yes, we decided as a group to give you the silent treatment When I do have the time, I keep getting kicked off the net by my crappie ISP. One more reason to compose in Word, Marie! BTW, welcome to the board (a little late) Chuckle!! Hello to you, too! I'm waiting for my brother to install WordPerfect onto the PC. Meanwhile, if I know I've got more to say than a few paragraphs' worth, I open a "new mail" in Outlook Express and type everything into that! So if I go over the word count here, I won't lose anything. Ta-da! Laugh! As otherwise, my high-speed ADSL connection (runs 24-7) is more than capable of keeping me online. So that's not an issue. Just the character limit. As I'm a chatty boots, when inspired. Grin. That aside, I'm a freelance artist so I can't afford to sit online for too long (paintings to finish, new commissions to chase down etc.) And I never avoid a user unless they're a troll. So fear not Romulanavatra3; if I haven't responded myself to something you've written, it wasn't an intentional snub on my part.

Howdy Rom. Just to let you know, I've read your posts and really like what you have to say.
And sometimes I try to type to fast, and can't spell to save my life, so sorry about that.
Also, I read some of the posts on here, and go "Whoa", I don't think I can add anything coherent to that statment", so I don't post. But I'm trying to get my post numbers up, to see if my little ranking thingy changes. *teehee*

Hi Rom. I wish I had more time to post but there is so much to read on this board, its hard to keep up. I usually take a quick peek when my boss goes out for a smoke, but by then there is no time to respond. I love the days when she's not here at all. My computer at home is not nearly as good as this one, and I have little time at home. I also agree that for some issues, everyone has said about the same thing I would say, so I just let it go. Keep posting and I'll throw in my 2cents whenever possible.

No snow here - clear skies over Vancouver; but cold!
General question now, to anyone:
Ever boot-up a PC, and as you watch the preliminary system load - ie: RAM check, detecting graphics card, Primary Master Slave etc, has anyone ever seen a flashing "WARNING" appear at the bottom, reporting a potential HD failure may be at hand? (Not to be confused with a failed Disk Boot.)
That's been happening to me since last sunday! I own a Mac. Still do; G4. But over Christmas and because I grumbled about platform issues etc, my brother gave me his old cast-off in the wake up upgrading to bigger and better things. Worked ok for a month. Now it's refusing to start cleanly; always have to press F1 or the reboot button thingy on the tower.
He's going to install a new HD tuesday. Been keeping my fingers crossed the thing won't die on me before then - as Quicktime won't play .avi or wmp files: platform issues. But I'm still curious - as he reported never ever seeing a notice like that! And he's had several computers over the years.
Yes, it's an old HD. More than likey this is what happens when one dies, but again... has that happened to anyone else or am I just special? Chuckle!!

Just a q: - I wonder if this should be moved to the Town Meeting thread? Or maybe a computer thread? If so I can move my response.
I am not very knowledgeable about Macs, but could it be that the CMOS battery is going bad? I believe that Macs also have a CMOS battery that controls power-on boot operations, maintains the system clock, and which also involves recognizing disk drives.
Another option to look into is a disk utility program like Norton Utilities for Macintosh, that could tell you if your hard drive has problem sectors which might lead to failure.
Hope this helps.

My brother used to have this paticular HD inside his own PC Tower. Actually, he had 3 HD's - little geek. Chuckle! He upgraded and gave "THIS" HD to a pal named Mike. Then... My brother upgrades again - gives another HD to Mike. Mike gives "THIS" HD back to Paul. At Christmas. So my Xmas gift - second-hand PC from my brother - is a frankenstein of various used parts pieced together from odds bits here and there. The HD in question always worked for both of them, BUT.. it was also "problematic" and you'd get the occational failed disk boot etc. Since having (8 weeks) it's gotten steadily worse. So I think it was always dying and on it's last legs, you know? Today however, I'm off to get the new 80G HD. So I won't have to worry about it anymore. But I remain curious about that WARNING. Chuckle! No one seems to have encountered it. But then, no one had a HD die on them either. They always upgrade every 8 months or so, as my brother and his buddies are TOTAL gamers! Anytime some new PC game comes out with higher system req.... BANG! Upgrade. LOL!
