Thanks Trisha,
Sorry I just had to ask you what you heard. I know several people that work for a pig slaughterhouse. I have always been told that they are humane, was given a tour many moons ago. I shared with them what you had said. And they wanted you to know. That not all these companies are so uncaring with their hogs. There is no nice way to slaughter an animal . This particular facility tries very hard to treat these pigs as humanely as possible….When they get off the truck. They are kept overnight, giving them a chance to settle down, and get accustomed to their surroundings. They are fed. In the winter they have heat. In the summer they are periodically sprayed with water and have fans throughout the pens to help keep them cool. There are at least a half a dozen USDA inspectors throughout the slaughtering process who keep a close watch.. The reason they want to keep the animals calm is the meat is much more tender, if the animal is relaxed and comfortable. If you talk to deer hunters, they feel that the best meat is when the deer has not been driven. It has to do with the adrenaline and stress running through the blood. It spoils the meat and makes it tough.
Any company that treats their animals that PETA describes is doing themselves a disservice. Yes, I agree with you that there is a lot of mistreatment of animals. And I too, abhor it . As long as society eats meat their will be slaughterhouses., but I just wanted you to know that there are some that make every attempt to be humane.
I know pigs are cute and adorable, and bright too! My grandfather had a farm, and his pig, we named Twinkletoes, played many a game with us
