Dana Reed had lung cancer but never smoked. Life is really unfair sometimes. Still what they did together as a couple, their strength and optimism and unfailing grace will live with us forever.
I love the weekends. This time last week I was laid out on my bed in sick agony after eating some bad food. The whole week, I've eaten nothing heavy at all; sushi, broths, and veggies and I feel like a million bucks. I'm at flat getting ready to go meet a friend and then off to celebrate a friend's birthday and the weather is finally lovely.
Hope you're all getting a taste of spring, wherever you may be.
Work tomorrow (yes, sunday: things are too busy) but I refuse to think about that.

I have a company potluck on Thursday for about 15 people and I'm stumped as to what to bring. I'm not baking anything (Believe me, they will thank me for that) and I want to keep the cost down to $12-$15 bucks total, definately not more than $20. What should I bring? I was going to whip up a Ceasar salad bowl but I have about five errands to run before work that day and don't know how I'm going to logistically accomplish that without it getting wrecked or me being late...
Any ideas?

Sirenna, why not pick up one of those large (already assembled ;D ) vegetable or fruit platters from Save-On Foods, Superstore or the like?

When in a pinch I always fall back on fancy cheese (though admittedly this has more to do with my own personal obsessive relationship with cheese than anything else ). Even though it requires almost no effort on your part, people are always impressed with a platter that has a couple of quality cheeses (you know, not block cheddar), some good crusty bread and a preserve or some fancy olives. Add a bottle of sparkling juice of some sort and you will be deeply loved.

Sirenna, I don't know about your colleagues, but if they're into desserts, anything with cake and ice cream will win lots of applause.
Do you have anything like Dairy Queen or Baskin Robbins ice cream shops where you are? You can order a nice sized cake for about $20 give or take. Just call ahead to order, and all you would have to do is drive by and pick it up just before you head out to the pot luck.

My mom has a great stuffed-mushroom recipe, but those can get kind of labor-intensive. We like mini-Reubens, get those little squares of bread for tiny sandwiches, stick in the oven and you got heavy hors-d'oeuvres.
For low-maintenance, a nice variety of cheese and crackers; I like the veggie tray idea. Or brownies--Ghiradelli has an amazing box mix, which made me exceedingly popular with my roommate and her friends after her birthday. Could you get away with bringing beverages and ice?
But then, I'm a college student, and don't do much "entertaining". We're all about the microwave popcorn.

Thanks for allyour suggestions. I ended up bringing a salad and some potato chips but really there was soooo much food, most of mine didn't get eaten. I think everyone went for the lasagna and brownies etc.

Well, I just gotta say, I am exhausted trying to keep up, here!!! Computer and I were both down for a couple days and now I can't catch up. Wow!!! This board is just bustin'! I missed this past Sunday's ep. and still need to re-watch last week's since I was freshly sans two teeth and hopped up on a double dose of pain meds. (WHEEEEE!) Point being I haven't even commented in episode threads. Soo not like me! Glad to see so many people here.
