www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/03/AR2006030301734.htmlSo if you read even further - they gave over a million as severance to another leaving executive. Now is that charity or what? Please let me know if you guys as a board get tired of my new political disgust and activism and I'll tone down my # of posts. Who doesn't think this is so ethically wrong that it stinks? This should be causing a scandal and outrage, not a minor note in the press. I'll be sending the red cross a letter expressing my disappointment and total support to the Salvation Army.

I certainly don't mind the political discussions on this board. We all seem to be civil about it and keep it on the proper threads.
I must agree with you about the Red Cross. Its policies regarding the gathering and distribution of blood are appalling.

The Salvation Army has never gotten the credit they deserve. They respond to all disasters, but don't get the news coverage. And they don't have the money to "advertise" the way the Red Cross does. What a shame that any charity pays that much money to an employee. I'd work for much less.

Yeah, the Red Cross is pretty much a joke of a charity as far as I'm concerned. I do donate blood, but I would never give them cash donations. The Salvation Army is totally underrated.
Another great non-profit that consistently gets high ratings from charity watch groups is Mercy Corps. They're local to my area but work world-wide and they really are wonderful. One of my best friends works for them, and right now she's in Iraq helping monitor grants given to citizens to build new schools and homes. I'm sure they're getting more done than our government.
There are good organizations out there, it can just be hard to find them when there are so many untrustworthy groups getting all the press. The Red Cross just stinks to high heaven.
