The calendar states that today is "Respect for Parents Day". I was under the impression that that was supposed to be 24/7, 365 days a year. Birthday greetings to all of you celebrating in August.

Amen to that, Nikki! And I wish our August babies a great birthday as well. Going to St. Louis tomorrow night to visit the in-laws. Maybe I can catch a Cardinals game and check out the new Busch. caseyswife

August has started out great. There are bodies all over my house, they are alive I think. My brother's family is visiting from Spain, they're braving the 100° weather to go into NYC today, corageous people. Happy birthday all you Leos and Virgos

umm i dont really know what to say here, so if I'm doing this wrong, just let me know, okay? School starts August 10th; it's horrible. I've already got senior-itis. Happy Birthday August people!! And Happy Anniversary the same (if it applies to you)!

loserbaby>> If you don't mind a little advice from an old broad - enjoy your last year. Don't go berserk and drop out or anything, but take your time and look around, appreciate your friends and your class subjects - even your teachers. Don't look back later and think "I should have...," like many of us old folks do! Kick some butt, kid! caseyswife

Mrs. T and I go for her appointment with the oncologist tomorrow, and the more she reads and hears about chemo and radiation, the more she wants to run in the opposite direction.
I don't think this esteemed member of the medical establishment is going to like the questions she plans to ask, but I like and support her attitude. Something tells me I'll have to a few zingers about doctors to post on the Pet Peeves thread when we get home.

Good luck to you and Mrs. T. This 'esteemed member of the medical establishment" may not like the questions she asks, but he'll sure have to answer them intelligently.

The visit with the oncologist went surprisingly well, so no Pet Peeves to report after all.
The doctor was supportive and encouraging, and I detected no hint of hidden agendas. He gave Mrs. T the facts, and didn't try to pressure her one way or another to go for the chemo. All of her questions were answered and she took more notes, so we'll discuss this issue some more over the weekend.
There's an intro to chemo class on Monday, and we signed up to attend. Hopefully whatever information is given will help her decide what she wants to do, and I'll support her 100%.

That's Great! You know, there are a few ethical docs out there - looks like you got one!
Still hoping for the best.

good luck Techguy. I have to say I live in a town with two teaching hopsitals and four other hospitals and the docs that I've met have been wonderful, knowledgeable and compassionate.

Techguy, I'm glad to hear that the appointments went well. I hope the class is useful and helpful.
The beach was wonderful, I did not want to leave. (For any familiar with the area, Carolina/Kure Beaches just across Snow's Cut from Wilmington. Stayed in a quiet little condo, not so tourist trappy.) Something about the water is just home for me, I really lose myself and can just simply be. But musings aside, lotsa seafood, heat wave but breeze and the ocean made up for it. Got some fun reading squeezed in before going off to school. And despite a little red on my shoulders the first day I got a wee bit of tan without making myself miserable. My father and brother laugh at me for reapplying SPF 30 Sports-sunblock (that's supposed to be sweat and waterproof), but I'm pretty sensitive and I don't want the dermatologist mad at me.
Loserbaby, I personally found college to be a vast improvement over high school, but it sounds like your school is going well, so congratulations. Senior year can be chaotic, I'll go ahead and warn you, but definitely memorable moments, especially if you have good relationships with friends and teachers. Have fun! (And during the crazy points, feel free to let fly!)

Techguy>> How wonderful that you and the Mrs. have an open minded and up tp date doc on your side. I know that must be a tremendous relief! Bless you and I am keeping you both in my prayers. Catbird>> I enjoyed one of the best vacations of my life at Carolina beach when I was little. My great-grandmother had never seen the ocean before and just knew that the noise of the waves would keep her up all night. Of course, she slept like a baby and we have a priceless photo of her sitting on a log at the beach, big pocketbook in tow! How lucky you are to live so close to such a wonderful place! Hope school goes well for you! caseyswife
