Ahhh, music. I listen to music almost all the time, all kind of music, I guess the most prevalent is folk/rock and singer/songwriter. I love juicy female voices, Joan Armatrading, Beth Orton, Susanne Vega and in Spanish Mercedes Sosa and as mentioned in the Celtic thread Celtic Music and modern/Celtic fusion, the Cranberries for example. For Jazz, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Duke Ellington. Classical I favor the Spanish, Albeniz and Rodrigo. I have it all in my ipod and just play the songs in alphabetical order, it makes an interesting medley. I, unfortunately do not play an instrument and sing only in the shower and probably off key, but I'd sooner give up food than music.

Yeah, I like singer/songwriters too. He's not indie but I really like John Mayer's lyrics. They're so personal and describe images only he could see in his head. It's not the same when a great writer, like Dolly Parton, sells songs to someone else to sing. In the second-hand telling the song loses the context to give it that uniqueness that makes it stand out for me.

I love all the definitions of "indie"...definitely a know it when you hear it thing. I think I lost my "indie" cred around 18 or so, and stopped caring about losing it at about 20 Ever since I've lived in a land where I listen to whatever pleases my ears at the moment, be it epic, tacky, creative, pop drivel, or what-have-you. I can honestly say I like a little bit of everything under the sun. If it's any indicator, the past week I've been listening to the Beatles, Jet, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, James Brown, Joan Jett, Elliot Smith, and Justin Timberlake. How do you lot listen to your music? Nowadays I tend to do just about all of my music listening while doing stuff....I used to *really* listen wth no distractions, but a home craft business and a full menagerie of animals on a small farm seems to have sucked up all my free time. One thing I could not live without is a turn table. We have one upstairs and one downstairs so we can listen to all our classic vinyl. Some things (like 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band') just sound best on vinyl. Isuspect that sounds a little snooty but I don't care
