Hmm, I dunno. I guess you could come up with all kinds of theories*, but I'm pretty sure that in a few years it'll start to swing back (hopefully). There were some nice healthy-looking models back in the 60s and 70s; it's kind of strange to think that even then they were considered unhealthily skinny (and now we (ie, Society)'re condemning ourselves as being too fat) *I started meandering on some of these, and icked myself out with freudian theorising... hmm... but we had marilyn monroe, then superskinny twiggy, then brigitte bardot... these things go back and forth. it's not a linear progression. and i definitely don't think any one group is to blame for the superskinny look! besides, there are plenty of straight men in LA who love the kate moss look. for whatever reason. what creeps me out is the fashion for very thin women who are waxed, tanned, peroxided, and polished out of human existence. -- and by waxed, i mean completely waxed. not a hair anywhere. i'd guess this is mostly the work of magazines like "playboy." so much so, in fact, that the complete bikini wax is nicknamed "the playboy."

i think it might be gay men who are responsible for the negative minus image of the catwalk and Hollywood? whoa there! Definately no one group is to blame for the superskinny fad/culture now. One of my past resolutions which worked fabulously for me this year was to be positive in the face of non-positive stuff. Non-positive stuff could be anything from smiling at someone and not getting a smile back and feeling put off because of it, to dealing with some stuff that qualified as real crisis.
It wasn't always easy and I consider myself to be an optimistic person to begin with! But it helped to have a mantra. Mine was "strength, wisdom and serenity." I don't know why it helps but it does. Repeating it, or any kind of postive statement seems to take you out of the bad moment. You can distance yourself from it and it forces you to focus on a positive things. At the end of the mantra, you're 'over it'.

Yup, I'll agree with that Some of them barely look human; it's no wonder that RealDolls found a market Anyway, since this is the Resolutions thread, I should add mine. My resolution for this year is to get to the next CI signing ;D Wherever it's held.

all they gay boys I knew would accept women friends in any shape - and still be delightfully silly companions. I think it is just societal pressure; Jamie Lee Curtis is my hero on this front.
My unofficial "resolution" is to try to walk my dogs daily - they have ween walk neglected lately.

My mother said that she thought the anarexia look is a way for women to deny the fact that they are grown ups, instead of little (nonsexual, prepubescent) children. In The Feminine Mystique, there is a lot of talk about how girls are favored and treated more tenderly than boys as children, only to be forever trapped in an infantalized role. Are these women maybe trying to retain their childhood favor by physically denying their womanhood?
To me, giving yourself a little boy's body is just telling the world that the patriarchy has won!
But I still count every calorie.
UGH.
Anyway, I'm resolving to jog at least a few times a week... I (ironically) haven't been doing it, because exercise makes me bulk up... but it's too great a stress-reliever to pass up.

I think they are turning themselves into that. We can blame TV, parents, advertsing for everything but at some point people make up their own minds to give into it all.
Any other resolutions, past or present, anyone?
