However, after seeing the final scene between Goren and Eames, the episode title can refer to the song originally used in the soundtrack for the 1936 Charlie Chaplin movie After seeing Charles Rubin's video interview on the USA site, I can believe that the title of "Smile" has everything to do with the song. An excellent catch by you, sir.

I'm not insisting on it, Summerfield, just suggesting a possible explanation for the episode title "Smile."
In light of the final G/E scene, perhaps a better choice of title and song is Carole King's "It's Too Late":
Stayed in bed all morning just to pass the time There's something wrong here, there can be no denying One of us is changing Or maybe we just stopped trying
And it's too late, baby, now it's too late Though we really did try to make it Something inside has died And I can't hide and I just can't fake it
It used to be so easy living here with you You were light and breezy and I knew just what to do Now you look so unhappy and I feel like a fool
And it's too late, baby, now it's too late Though we really did try to make it Something inside has died And I can't hide and I just can't fake it
There'll be good times again for me and you But we just can't stay together, don't you feel it, too Still I'm glad for what we had and how I once loved you
But it's too late, baby, now it's too late Though we really did try to make it Something inside has died and I can't hide And I just can't fake it

My reply 'sounded' snippy. It wasn't my intention. And I can't get Rubin's video to play. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

In light of the final G/E scene, perhaps a better choice of title and song is Carole King's "It's Too Late": All I can say to that is Well, if that last exchange between Goren & Eames (which I have now seen a record 10 times) is supposed to indicate a good relationship (as per Erbe's press interview), then I'm afraid to see what the writers will concoct to convey a bad one.

Hey Everyone! I may be confused, but the episode title shown on Oct. 18 @ 10pm on my cable tv--RCN--was entitled "Depths." Did anyone else see that error on your schedule? Besides the obvious show subject, DENTISTS, hence .'SMILE' would be the correct title. My cable network (which I am soon changing) did not EVEN give a program synopsis. Another clue that something was amiss. I'm SO GLAD I became a CI Board member when I did. I did think the episode was okay, but it needs to get back to the knockout show it once was (with DOINK, DOINKS included). AND, I would still like to have the original theme music back!!

I miss the music, too, but I liked the two episodes with Goren/Eames (Amends & Smile). I didn't enjoy Alicia Witt's performance as much as I thought I would, but Barek grew on me with time (I'm one of the few). I know it isn't part of the Smile thread, but I must be a little like Goren in terms of not doing well with change. I'm getting tired of Logan's partner changes. But, I actually liked Barek's character and the hats Santa left her.

I noticed that on my cable guide when "Smile" was repeated Saturday night on USA. It said "Depths" and didn't have an episode description. Next week's G/E episode is "Depths". T

I liked this episode but I really didn't understand why they had to have that whole exchange at the end, it was like they just threw it in there for us. Oh I did like the comment about Leslie wear Red when she is out to get something and Goren's reaction....
