Can I change my birthdate in my profile?

Birth dates cannot be changed after they are submitted. The only thing you can do to change it is delete your current account and sign up for a new one.

This is just a minor quibble but if there's a logical answer I'd like to know.
How come some posts such as those from me have large empty spaces at the bottom, whereas other posts are rather compact with little wasted space at the bottom? Is there something in the personal Profile that adjusts the space, or am I being too anal?

Items in your profile such your personal data, avatar and signature text(s) determine the minimum space required for any given post.

OK, thanks Jethro, I think I got it. While I don't have a signature, perhaps it's the avatar and the verbage in the personal info box to the left of the posting box that needs room and thus creates the empty space when I post.
There's nothing quite like having an insightful L&O DOINK! DOINK! moment in the wee small hours of the morning.

Sometimes in the middle of the night, around 4 or 5 am, I cannot access the site. When I click on the link to come here, nothing happens. Does the site shut down around this time or something? Or is it my just computer being stupid?

The page doesn't open at all. It won't open even when I try to open links from Yahoo search. I don't get any error messages.

Our site doesn't shut down unless there's a problem with the server. In that case, you would see an error page. There are also times when the server gets too many page requests at once. When that happens you'll see a "too many connections" page. Since the page isn't loading for you at all, it seems that you're having a connectivity issue. This may be a problem with your internet service provider (ISP) or at one of the hops in the path your connection to our site goes through. To find out, you'll have to contact your ISP when the problem is occurring. They can run a traceroute from your IP to our site to see where your connection is being blocked and what's causing it.

I'm obviously new at this, so here comes a dumb question--I've noticed that my designation (is that the correct term?) has changed from "rookie" to "silver shield". What does that mean?

Sarahlee,
It's a gaging system for how active you are. You got Silver because you made 50 posts. It will change again as you make more posts, some people here have over 1,000 posts!
My apologies to the mods if I'm not supoosed to answer questions in this thread...
I have a dumb question that takes the cake- On the front page of the forum, where it shows the names of the mods under the catergory names, why is Jethro's name in lighter print than the other two two mods?

Thanks. Just more evidence that I talk too much, but I have a Silver Shield!

I think she meant things like IMO, ROTFLMAO, IIRC, YMMV, and such.
Those can be confusing for people new to message boards. I see no issue with starting a thread to define them.
