The National LedgerNo 'Mr. Big' Excitement Over 'Sex and The City' Pic for Chris Noth By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith Jan 31, 2007
Chris Noth isn't getting worked up about the prospect of reprising his role as Mr. Big in a big-screen version of "Sex and the City." He's heard the chatter that the film will finally be made, but says he doesn't believe it. On the other hand, if such a project does come to pass, he's sure there will be a part for him, because, he says, "Mr. Big was such a big part of the equation."
He has decidedly mixed emotions about the matter.
"Mr. Big was fun to do, but I have many more roles to play, and wouldn't want to be locked into one part. People even call me Mr. Big when they pass me on the street. I would prefer that they didn't, but they do."
He's more than pleased to be back, reprising his old "Law & Order" role as Det. Mike Logan on "Law & Order: Criminal intent" -- with a schedule that has him and co-star Julianne Nicholson alternating leads with Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe. He does admit, though, that it's taken him a while to be happy with the show.
"That first year was difficult. The plot lines were long and complicated, and I just wasn't sparking to it. The characters were just pointing the audiences through the story, like beacons. But this year it's different. The show's provocative, the writing sharp and much improved with Warren Leight aboard as executive producer and Norberto Barba as producer."
Noth's schedule allows him squeeze in some film work, such as the upcoming drama "Frame of Mind," in which Tara Wilson is also featured.
Noth and Wilson met a few years back when she appeared in "King Lear" in New York. Then she did a "Criminal Intent" guesting in 2004 and ... They've been together ever since? "You could say that's true," says Chris.

That's what I immediately thought. And that opera episode "Dramma Giacoso" - sorry if it's spelled incorrectly - I thought they were fabulous episodes and both sharply written! I think he's problem may have been the way the guest characters had more story - Is that it? Perhaps, but I don't think this season (6) has improved upon the last season, not by a long shot. Yes, it's nice to see the main characters get more of a lead and yes, information on them is also fascinating and the interaction level has changed, but I'm still in two minds as to whether that makes it better than last season. I think several of the Logan/Barek episodes felt as if they were orginally written for Goren/Eames. The episodes this season seemed to have been written for Logan/Wheeler. Julianne Nicholson also seems to be clicking much better with Mr. Noth, and, again, the writing is better for her character.

I agree with Patcat - I think that Mr Noth probably felt stuck btwn a rock and a hard place last year. I mean from what we have heard - Anabella Sciorra didn't want to be there at all And I don't neccessarily think that Mr. Balcer was necessarily all for bringing the Logan character back. So to me it just sounds as if Noth is in a better space this season and feeling alot better about his place in the show. Also apparently Julianna Nicholson is extremely happy about being there and a real joy to work with - so I'm sure that this makes a huge difference in the feeling around the set.

It's easy to see that Chris Noth is really enjoying the material that he's been given for this new season. Now, I enjoyed season 5, and I liked the character of Barek, but even I was able to notice the tension.
Regardless of how true the stories really are, Sciorra performed like she didn't want to be there. She really only started giving her character some life in the last few episodes, and you have to wonder whether that was because she was seeing that proverbial 'light at the end of the tunnel'. It was a shame, because given a bit of extra time, the Logan/Barek partnership could have been a great one.
It's interesting, because after the first season of CI, Kathryn Erbe could have gone the same way. Instead of embracing Vincent D'Onofrio's style and methods, as she obviously did, she could have simply said 'I can't work like this', and left the show. And God knows what would have happened to CI then. It's a pity Sciorra didn't have just that much more enthusiasm for the project.
Julianne Nicholson performs as though she DOES want to be there, and it's obvious from the interviews she's done with Chris Noth, that she's thrilled to be working with him.
Not to mention, it's about damn time that we got to see Logan as the senior partner.
And, coming back to the original content of this post... ;D I, for one, hope that there IS a Sex and the City movie filmed, and that Chris is in it. I'll definitely be keen to see it if there is. I'd love to see Chris Noth on the big screen. That would be magic.

I read Chris Noth's statements more as a commentary on his experiences working with Annabella Sciorra than anything else. I don't doubt there was tension on the CI set last season because, quite frankly, Annabella Sciorra conveyed zero enthusiasm for her role and it had to have rubbed CN the wrong way. For the majority of S5, with the exception of a few fleeting moments such as in "To the Bone," Logan and Barek demonstrated absolutely no chemistry together. It's no wonder he seems to be enjoying himself a lot more this season with an eager and willing partner played by an actress (Julianne Nicholson) who seems to really want to be there. Co-workers can oftentimes make or break how one perceives a job, and CN is no exception.

Obviously, if I was working with someone who didn't seem to want to be there or didn't really have their heart in it, it would get me down too. But, that never occured to me. Because the chemistry wasn't noticeable, I never picked up on it, or the lack of it either. But now you've mentioned that, I do agree with you. I do sometimes wonder where they were headed with Barek as a character or what backstory Annabella Sciora really had for her because it wasn't obvious, it's possible it's there if you really look for it. I like subtle - just not so subtle that it's invisible. Wendy Hugs

He's actually dubbed that in the pilot episode, where someone (Samantha, I think) points him out to Carrie at a party, and she's told that he's really big in business in NYC. I could be wrong, but I think the line went something like "He's the Mr Big of business", or something similar. Hence the moniker "Mr Big". And then, of course, the nickname takes on whole new meanings throughout the course of the show. LOL

I agree with Noth - I dont think the flick will be made either. If it ever does, I think it'd be hilarious if they made it 20-30 years from now, then it would just be "The Golden Girls" on the big screen.

Just heard the flick will be made, Filming starts this Fall, but CI will be filming. Wonder if Mr Big will make an appearance? Since he is just in everyother episode, if the part isn't so "Big" maybe he could wing it.

From newstimelive.com: All Or Noth-ing'Sex and the City' film's cast: All or Noth-ing
By Joe Dziemianowicz New York Daily News
NEW YORK -- It was enough to make die-hard "Sex and the City" fans choke on their Cosmopolitans.
When news broke that a long-stalled "Sex" movie will begin filming this fall with its four stars (Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall) reprising their roles, word also came that there's a big gap in the production.
A Mr. Big gap, that is.
Chris Noth still has not signed on to play Carrie's on-again, off-again (and, for a time, married) boyfriend who took six seasons to tell the Manolo-mad sex columnist the heartfelt words she desperately wanted to hear: "Carrie, you're the one."
In 2004, 10.6 million viewers tuned in for the series' final episode and heard him say it. The scene was shot in Paris, where Big had gone to win Carrie back from an egomaniacal artist played by Mikhail Baryshnikov.
Last seen, Carrie was on the phone with Big (whose name is revealed to be the humdrum John), looking very much in love.
Game On for Carrie and Big, the poster couple for commitment-phobes.
Still, Noth isn't saying "I do" just yet to revisiting his role in the much-anticipated film.
As of Monday, the word from Noth's manager was that "we are waiting for an offer still and hope schedules can be worked out."
For many devotees, a "Sex and the City" movie without Mr. Big is no movie at all. Big appeared in 41 episodes and in a series with four leading ladies, he was the leading man who left an indelible impression.
"He was like the fifth Beatle," said one longtime fan.
Dragging her (high) heels seems to have worked for Cattrall, who plays Carrie's PR pal, Samantha Jones. The actress agreed to do the movie after sweetening her arrangement.
Spies who've read Michael Patrick King's "Sex and the City" screenplay confirm that Mr. Big is part of the story ("He's in the flesh, not just on the other end of a phone," said one insider.) and Noth has plenty of reasons to join the film cast.
One of them is dough. Noth, 52, a Yale School of Drama grad, just renewed his contract for the TV crime show "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" -- but he didn't get an expected 5 percent bump in salary as part of the deal. With his hard-partying lifestyle, a few extra Benjies will buy a few extra rounds. He might get a break at The Cutting Room watering hole he co-owns in Manhattan, but you've still got to tip the bartender.
Another motivation is ego. At Ron Perelman's Fourth of July bash last week, Noth didn't object to the succession of blonds who lined up to chat with the man who made Carrie's love life so tumultuous.
Noth has expressed great affection for his prosperous, man-about-town alter ego. He even stated feelings of concern when Aidan and Carrie's romance heated up and there was a chance Big would be written out of her life and the show.
Big is the role that made Noth a household name. Quick: Can you even name the character he plays on "L&O"? (It's Mike Logan). As Big, he also got a Golden Globe nomination.
Odds are, Big on the big screen won't bring an Oscar nomination, but top New York casting agent Bonnie Timmermann says Noth should get into the picture.
"Chris Noth should definitely sign," she says. "If the role is a good one, it's always a plus for a TV actor to do a film, especially if he created the role. And he made a huge impression with that character.
"If he doesn't do it, they shouldn't replace him, but create a new character," she adds. . . .
Jane Ridley contributed to this story.
