Is it just me, or did anyone else love SALTON SEAS? >>especially VDO's character POOH BEAR.......the disgustingly filthy & very loveable pig of a man. >>Pooh Bear was a great character and VDO did a superb job (as always)...duh! But, what suprised me about this movie was Val Kilmer. Normally when watching one of his movies I cringe with boredom & wonder why he is famous. I usually can't sit through a movie with Kilmer in it. But The Salton Sea proved me wrong.......Kilmer was great in it.... Still.....not as good as V -man. >>>>>>>>and, call me crazy, but did anyone else think that Pooh Bear was kinda cute???..... he he he....I am TOTALLY JOKING....! LOL......well I think V could make any character hot. >>But, that aside - SALTON SEAS was a dvd to buy! boo cunningnick

Pooh Bear looks like Garth Brooks on CRACK
a most unsettling character, his instabilty is frightening.

Well, I have to confess it's not my favorite of Mr. D'Onofrio's films.
I was describing it to a friend, with special emphasis on Pooh Bear, and just about the time I began to describe the JFK assassination with pigeons, he said, "Oh, come on. You're making this up, right?"

Nope, not my nearly my favorite at all either.
It leaves me feeling empty and sad but for no reason. Many of Mr. D'Onofrio's characters leave me sad, but there is a reason in the film, an underlying message or alternate ending or something. Even though Val seemed to walk off ready to start a new life, I didn't feel it. It was spiral into darkness the whole way & Pooh Bear was just pushing people into the spiral until one of them grabbed his collar and brought him in too.
That said - Pooh Bear was shown to depth - creepy man, creepy.

I do agree, too, Metella, that the ending really didnt.....well.... feel?.....like there seemed to be something missing. I think it was the trumpet at the end, really. It looked rather fake to me. But, I must admit that the song that ended the movie is one of my fave songs.....Tantric's "Mourning"....It seemed to be fitting of the way the movie ended. Still, tho, I believe Pooh Bear was brilliantly portrayed by V-man.....a top class effort. I also agree with the fact that many of V's character's do leave a person feeling sad......I think that is one of the reason's I connect with his acting.........D'Onofrio is able to tell a complete story with his eyes......or with his hands......in such a way that it moves (thus, creating that feeling of sadness - or even a feeling of sympathy)... but, I think Salton Seas didn't get the credit it deserved. boo cunningnick

Vincent D'Onofrio as Pooh Bear was superb! Can't say the same thing for the whole movie.
I guess this movie suffers from a lack of something to care about ...

Pooh Bear looks like Garth Brooks on CRACK Pooh Bear kind of reminded me of (Leonard) Gomer Pyle. Big and "Doofusy" you could say. But funny. Who else could pull off trying having a wild animal tear, claw and chew on someone's balls just for the hell of it? I have a sick sense of humour. Plus I simply don't like Val Kilmer. All that work and he still managed to bore the hell out of me. And if tells me he's a trumpet player one more time... IMO Vincent is what saved this movie.

I have to agree with you PoohBear, Val Kilmer is like an itch you cant get to, and that was what offset the film too much of him. True very True ive seen Vincent in films that youd put in the trash can, but because of his superb talent he turns it around. I for one will be happy to see Vincent making films again. jmho

I could barely stand him in Batman let alone as a trumpet playing drug addict. Never again.

I thought it was a great movie ... with or without Vincent. I'm totally NOT a fan of Val Kilmer, but I loved the movie!! Pooh Bear made it extra special ..

for barb .... bumped up this thread and copied your post ..... just make sure you look a little before starting this kind of thread - chances are all the films have a thread at this point in the board's life.
has anyone watched the Salton Sea i have just watched it recently and i had mixed feelings about it, it was based on a drugs ring with Val Kilmer going in on under cover being a f.b.i agent to find out who killed his wife. coming to V.D.O role he played a drug dealer and really changed himself with putting on 40.1bs in wieght and dying his hair blonde and also having a false nose which made him talk through this teeth but at the end of the day it is a film we are watching and not Goren which i tend to at times forget but the putting on weight does not suit him anyway thats my view

I enjoyed Salton Sea. It shows how well VDO can physically change characters. I thought PoohBear was gross and funny at the same time. The nose thing was too funny. I just finished watching Happy Accidents, which was excellent but it also had a dark side. I loved the movie Guy.
