According to Variety.com www.variety.com/index.asp?layout=upsell_article&articleID=VR1117914004&categoryID=14&cs=1(Just for Variety by Army Archerd) D'Onofrio returns to 'Law & Order' HOLLYWOOD -- "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," which was shut down for six shooting days due to Vincent D'Onofrio's hospitalization for exhaustion, was back onstage Tuesday with D'Onofrio (Detective Robert Goren) on hand. I spoke to him in his dressing room via phone. He sounded fine and assured me that he was indeed OK. He insisted the cause of his absence was strictly "exhaustion." "I guess I'm a perfectionist," he noted. "And the only thing that would stop me (from working) was falling down -- and that's what happened." I asked if his doctors had recommended any changes. "We went over my lifestyle," he admitted, "and we all decided -- I shouldn't smoke. My daughter Leila is most influential in trying to get me to stop smoking." He added, "I have to get more rest. I have been working on a short movie, 'Five Minutes, Mr. Welles,' a fictitious event that happened during the filming of 'The Third Man.' I got interested in it when I was playing (Welles) in 'Ed Wood.' " D'Onofrio hopes to take the film to Cannes. He wrote it with Will Conroy, with whom he's also writing a Western, "Mac Dog Williams." "Thumbsucker," in which he stars, is also headed to Cannes, he says. I asked if he had any plans to depart the series after the fifth season. "I'm here as long as Dick (Wolf) thinks I should be. But I can't get myself that exhausted again. I can't let that happen again." He's in 30-35 scenes of every show and, despite the long hours, he allowed, "It's not digging ditches."

Nicky:
Thanks for the article!
Hey, we all need a wake-up call, once in a while. I have no doubt his daughter will win the ciggie battle with him. Vincent's got a lot to be thankful for this holiday. I'm glad it's nothing serious. ;D

"I asked if he had any plans to depart the series after the fifth season. "I'm here as long as Dick (Wolf) thinks I should be. But I can't get myself that exhausted again. I can't let that happen again." Thanks for the post Nicki Great to see this in Variety - a reputable paper and Archer is known for being even handed. Nice counter to all the wild and nasty press. The quote is interesting to me - seems like code for something - maybe to quell all the "he's a jerk to work with and is going to be fired" talk It very well could be that Wolf did talk to him and they have come to some kind of terms. VDO seems like he would be easily bored and doing the series might be getting old - so maybe he was acting up. However, sounds like he has Wolf's support and we'll get to enjoy his talent for at least the next year and a half! ;D I would agree that this undoubtably was a wake up call Vincent (6 days in a hospital is too long for it to be just a prima donna actor trying to get attention) I wish him all the best with kicking smoking and getting a bit more normalcy in his life.

Thanks for posting that, Nikki. His response to the five year question was very encouraging. I’m delighted that it sounds as though he’s decided not to leave at the end of his contract. Criminal Intent is such a unique combination of talent, I’m so glad it has the opportunity to last a bit longer than 5 years. It’s neat to hear that he’s co-writing scripts now. I’m looking forward to seeing the results! Naturally, I hope he does decide to stop smoking. But I hope he lays the groundwork first. For many smokers, smoking is part of how they manage stress. In such cases, stopping without first learning more functional ways of dealing with stress can trigger all sorts of stress-related symptoms – some of which can lead to serious physical conditions. So I hope he prepares as well for this as he prepares for his acting roles.

I am new to this forum and i have only just read about this of him fainting but i agree that no one knows a person until they meet him so if this as come from the press then we can only believe of what we can hear from it i to only hope that part of it was due to exhaustion of being overworked because i really do think he is a good actor of the character he plays and hope that he does continue with working with c.i. anyway i wish him well for the future

One of the post here referred to a "Waitress story" Could someone tell me what that was?

There was a blurb in one of the rags where a waitress who claimed to have slept with VDO was interviewed and she said he was a freak in the sack.
Who would like to volunteer to verify this information for us? Anyone?
;D ;D ;D

Once again, I'll sacrifice myself for the cause. Where do I sign up? One person's freak could be another person's treasure. (Isn't that how the saying goes? )

Was it in the NY Post, that unimpeachable source? I would be curious how the waitress defines "freak".

Yea, I'm pretty sure it was the POST. I think it's also the same story that reported that Mr. D'Onofio left a $100 tip for a $50 bill.

Freak, eh? Hmm... Like maherjunkie, I would be very interested in knowing the waitress's definition of 'freak'. I however, being young and stupid, (my personal definition of immature,) am uncertain as to whether or not I would wish to take part in any experiment to discover the answer. I leave it to the wiser generation.
Do let me know when you find out though. He is way older than me, but something about him gives him a lot of sex appeal in my book.
