I really want to see this film but it seems to be missing from my local Blockbuster. Sadness... So- I'd like a little input. Is 'Thumbsucker' a movie worth buying? I mean, yes, any with VDO in it is worth seeing once but is this film worth buying (because I think that might end up being the only way for me to see it)? As some reference- I enjoyed 'The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys' and 'Happy Accidents'.
Thoughts anyone?

If you get cable - it is running on my PayPerView now for 3.99 - check your listing & then you can tape it for future watchings.

I think it is worth buying because it really resonated with me. It is so ironic with VDO being my imaginary boyfriend and my husband tolerating it and Mrs. Cobb having a crush on a hollywood celeb and him tolerating it. Also loved the relationship with the boy and his orthodonist.

I recorded this a couple weeks ago and watched it last night. Really enjoyed the performances of VDO and Lou Taylor Pucci, but as a whole I didn't love it.
One scene I especially liked was VDO sitting at Pucci's bedside, discussing Tilda Swinton's work at the rehab center. VDO says he found the picture of the actor Swinton liked. He rubs his face, laughs dismissively and says, "Matt Schramm. You'd think she'd pick someone better than that." I thought it was funny that he was making fun of a fellow member of the Law & Order family (Benjamin Bratt).

Anyone see Tilda Swinton win the Oscar last evening for Best Female Actor In A Supporting Role? She was in "Michael Clayton." She was very surprised when they announced her name, as was everyone else. She was very gracious in her acceptance. Unfortunately, she didn't mention VDO, like Rene Zellwigger did. Amy Ryan from "Rocketman" & "Suite Sorrow" was also nominated in the same category for "Gone Baby Gone." I saw a little scene, she really looked the part.

I mean she gets to be with Vincent AND George Clooney!

For those of you who have proximity to a Big Lots (and what is not to love about a Big Lots?), my local store had Thumbsucker for three dollars. I passed it up for Guys and Dolls, but I might yet get it if any of you can convince me it's worth the money *g*
