If anyone wants to know:
Annie Parisse is leaving the cast. She either quit or was fired and her character - Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Borgia - is murdered in the season finale.

LOL as long as Jesse Martin & S. Epatha Merkerson stay around, everyone else can leave .

*slaps kawaiidragonfoe821* How can you say that! Sam Waterston is like half of the show and all the rest of the actors are the other half.

Tonight's ep will be interesting, that's for sure. The promos show Borgia being kidnapped - and now we know murdered - and the promo also shows McCoy being "relieved of his responsibilities." I suspect McCoy will be a cliffhanger until the new season, but if Borgia is truly murdered, then she's gone the way of Claire Kincaid, never to return.

OH yeah, she's gone. We actually see her body in the trunk of the car, so rule out any return guest appearances. In the 16 years L&O has been on TV, she's only the third character to get killed off, and the second for that to happen because of the job.
Sam Waterston was excellent, by the way.
Favorite line comes from Van Buren: "Oh, you're our witness now. We own your ass." All in the delivery.

Mr. Waterston was absolutely brilliant last night. That's how you do personally intense, gut wrenching scenes. Yeah, I'm looking at you, SVU! Always great to have scenes with SW and SEM, who was also excellent. Her whole "I'm sorry, Jack" was beautifully done. And I agree about that line, Catbird. Good episode except for two things. Didn't we just see the 'same' opening on CI a couple of weeks ago? If it wasn't for that, it would have had a stronger impact on me. And did Borgia take a 'stupid' pill? That seems like the only plausible explanation, to me, for her opening her door like that!

Let's cut to the chase--is Sam Waterston coming back?

I haven't heard anything about Sam Waterston. Somebody said somebody read an interview with Dick Wolf in which he said that Sam Waterston and Jerry Orbach were immune from the revolving casting door unless they wanted to go. So I'm guessing that unless his contract is up and he wants to move on, Waterston will stay. My guess is they might slap a sanction or something on McCoy next season, but it's nothing he hasn't seen before, and they'll probably be sympathetic given the circumstances.
I know, Nikki, the whole door thing. Let's see, you live in New York City, you're a DA who makes dangerous people mad on a daily basis, and you're caught up in the middle of an especially nasty ugly case. Look through the peephole, or at the very least chain the door before you open it! Even naive little Catbird in the suburbs knows that!
Still, it was a pretty solid episode. Ho hum, I'm getting pretty tired of the NBA taking up my precious reruns on TNT. I'll be ready to catch up on Lennie.

When the part where they showed her in the trunk came, I was reminded just a little of South Park's farewell to Chef. It seems to me like if they wanted to be nice to the actress and character, they could have let the last look fans get of her be a little nicer, but they uglied her up real good. It's burned into my brain, and now I will forever remeber Annie Parrise and her Borgia as a beaten and bloody corpse.

Would you say the send off was as bad as the Lawyer lady falling down the elevator shaft on L.A Law back in the 80's which for me was the biggest, fictional slap in the face of any TV series?

I never watched LA Law so I didn't even know that had been done. As for Parisse/Borgia's send off, she looked bad. And the camera stayed on her for a good long time. It's not an image that I'll get out of my head easily, and I can't help thinking that *may* have been the point. But I'm definitely not making any accusations.
Other than that, I thought the ep was good. I agree that the intro was quite reminiscent of To The Bone, with the exception that the mother begged for the child not to come in -- which was gut wrenching once it was clear why.
I am also in the camp that hopes McCoy stays around for at least one more season. He's RB's legacy on that show, and, IMO, still the best part.

My Mr. was chatting away during this episode - so please can someone tell me why they went after her .... it seems they just beat her up & killed her right away; if so, whey didn't they just off her in the apartment? Were they trying to get info from her before she died?

Metella, Frank Andreas (Bruce MacVittie's character) was under protection at that point. They were probably trying to get his location from her. But, as Ed said, it wouldn't have mattered if they found out where he was being hidden as FA was being moved.
I missed about two minutes because of a phone call and didn't come back until they showed McCoy looking down at Borgia in the trunk. The CTV is showing it tonight and I will be rewatching.
