I hope this is the right place to post this news.
I saw on another board that Homicide: Life on the Street Season 6 with the Vincent D'Onofrio episode "The Subway" is coming out on DVD on January 25, 2005.
There are bonus features included--check out Amazon.com for a full description and/or to pre-order the set.

Kathryn Erbe appears in the episode following "Subway". Her episode is called "All Is Bright". Review by R.D. Heldenfels, for the Beacon Journalwww.ohio.com/mld/ohio/entertainment/television/10643308.htm?1cAnd you can tell how great Homicide: Life on the Street was by watching just one episode. On Homicide: Life on the Street: The Complete Season 6 (A&E, 23 episodes, six discs, $99.95), that episode is The Subway. It has the Baltimore homicide detectives investigating an incident on a subway where a fatally injured man (Vincent D'Onofrio, long before Law & Order: Criminal Intent) must wait out his last moments.
It's a gripping story. There's great acting between D'Onofrio and Homicide star Andre Braugher, and sharp moments from other cast members. There are conversations about death and God, sex and parenthood. There's even interesting music by Baltimore band Love Riot. To watch it is to wish all TV was like this.
Of course, this being a Homicide set -- due in stores Jan. 25 -- a lot of it is good. If The Subway doesn't appeal, try the three-part Blood Ties, a complicated rumination on race and class, with a guest cast that includes James Earl Jones and Jeffrey Wright. Like the other sets of this series, it's a must for the serious TV collector.

$99 seems like a lot for a R1 DVD. I'm use to trying to get my DVDs on the cheap by buying R1 but that price is on par with the rip-off prices here in the UK!

I got the VHS - 2 tape set .... something like $30.00 Well worth that - not only is the episode great; the "making of" really opened my cynical eyes to all the prep work that goes into an episode & they did it with energy; so it is not sleepy documentary time. ;D

It's a fascinating documentary that probably shows as much about the production of good television as any show could.
One of my favorite moments is when the producer or the director is talking to the casting director and asking, in reference to Mr. D'Onofrio, "Well, just how big is this guy anyway?" (It's actually a pretty important question that relates to sets, costumes, camera angles--all sorts of stuff.)

Amnesic:
It's definitely worth the money for the reasons stated above. One thing to note, if it's expensive at the outset it may get cheaper later on. If you hunt around places like EBay, DiscountDVD.com, Overstock.com, Half.com etc. you may find it cheaper. I have seen other TV series DVD sets at BJ's Warehouse Club so such discount clubs like Sam's Club might also have it cheaper, and maybe some US friends might find it for you there.
Another strategy you might take is if the DVD is too much, wait for some Homicide fans to buy the DVD and then unload the VHS version on EBay. You should be able to have the NTSC tape converted to PAL format for not too much money. I've generally paid about $15 US for PAL to NTSC conversions here.
Good luck!

Loved this epi. Had started watch Homicide when our cable company starting running the sleuth channel. He did real well. I know they told him he had a million to one chance. But didn't appear they tried to work on him at all. Wish they would have shown them trying. And the poor girlfriend passing by at the end.

Saw this again recently...as I mentioned in the Semi-Professional ep thread, Larry Bierdon was played by the same actor who played Arnie Cox. That was kind of weird.
As I watched I couldn't help but see John Lange as the same type of man Bobby Goren's dad was. Lange was a working class stiff who brown-nosed the boss, angling for a raise...he sometimes felt like throwing the boss and himself off the roof...liked a strong drink...flirted and "eyed the legs"...he was a salesman and said he could read people...at the end he brought up some arcane knowledge about the sugar maples.
He just seemed like a rougher, less sophisticated version of Bobby, hence the thoughts of Mr. Goren.

Trevor Snyder at 411 Mania voted this the #1 Favorite TV Episode of All Time:1. Homicide: Life on the Street - "Subway" (Season 6)
This might just be one of the most depressing hours in television history, yet it is also inarguably one of the best. Vincent D'Onofrio guest-stars as John Lange, a man apparently pushed into the path of an oncoming subway train. When Detectives Pembleton and Bayliss arrive at the scene, the train is stopped and Lange is pinned underneath. Basically, the only thing keeping him alive is that the train is still holding him together – once the train is moved, he will die. A couple cops are dispatched to find Lange's girlfriend, while Bayliss stays with him, keeping him company in his final minutes. It all builds up to an absolutely devastating resolution. No joke, this is one of the most intense episodes of any show you will ever see. In fact, I seem to remember PBS even having an entire documentary about this episode before. Am I crazy, or does anyone else remember this? Regardless, this was a great hour of TV, and an episode you'll never be able to forget once you've seen it.

This episode will air on Christmas Day at noon ET on WGN. Except in Chicago, the home of WGN. Hmph. (The station has different contracts in Chicago, so the schedule varies greatly from that of the rest of the country. It stinks!)
