This is a heads up for LilE and anyone interested: I read on a Yahoo CI board that the FCC is going to stop free closed-captioning of some shows, including Law and Order. I don't know if this affects all of the franchise or not. I suppose so. Here is a short link to the article that was posted: makeashorterlink.com/?S1AD25167Domenica

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Dom, for the article. I'm gonna write to the author and thank him, too. Oh, I have SOOO much to say about this issue I can't even BEGIN!!
I know that at least a couple CI episodes had captioning provided by Public Television which, thank freaking goodness, the FCC can't do anything about since the funding is PUBLIC!
Letters will be written, phone calls made, emails sent as soon as I find out where to direct this disgust. Man. Idiots. I think Big Brother has a brain tumor. If not, I'll see if that can be arranged. My day tomorrow will be dedicated to finding out who these morons are and maybe we can force them to watch a week's worth of the tv shows of their choice, then remove the sound, disable the closed captioning. Again I say, WTF!!

It will be well over a year from the original *scheduled* release date (it was supposed to come out last spring ), Season 2 of L&O is coming out on May 4th. This is according to the tvshowsondvd.com site, which is quite accurate with such information. Hey Lil'E, just let us know where to send the letters. Be glad to help.

Thanks, y'all! Boy, I do seem to be taking up the causes these days, huh?! I haven't had the time to do the research within the Deaf Community but when I find details I will let everyone know. This is such an important issue. They may think they won't hear from Deaf folks since they already have such limited access to so much information. Big mistake number one!! The Deaf Community and the best Interpreters who work with them have an extremely tight network and word travels fast and reliably. If I was still in touch with even one of the people I know, I'd already have details and probably some sort of form letter or petition we could all sign. I'm going to contact a couple teachers I know at the School for the Deaf in my home state and search the net for anything I can find so get those pens ready! Forward, MARCH!!! WELL! Wouldya' look at that! All the square thingies, the ads, at the top of the page are CC related!!! Cool Beans! Now, if I can only remember how to save them to my favorite places on my new ISP!

Count me in! And I mentioned a friend of the family who's an advocate for the deaf, next time I see her I'll be sure to mention/ask for suggestions. Can you believe this? Should we just keep checking here for the contact information?

I'll send a letter also. I don't have close contacts in the Deaf community these days, but I do live close to the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Philadelphia and I have no trouble sending off an email. The Community College of Philadelphia has a large interpreter training program also. I'm sure the Phila. Deaf/Interpreter community would want to mobilize on something like that. It's completely bogus.

If anyone gets good information, maybe we could post it on the Town Meeting thread since we all seem to check that regularly.

National Association of the Deaf: nad.orgThere's a page dedicated to the captioning issue, with links. I also posted the address on the Town Meeting thread. Re: Law and Order actor: Has anyone seen the movie, "The Man in the Moon"? Sam Waterson stars as the father. It's a very good movie, sad at times. Reese Witherspoon is the 13 year old daughter, but if you don't like her more recent movies don't let that keep you from watching this one! She's excellent.

Thanks for the link, Lil'E. I've seen "Man in the Moon" quite a few times. I have it on VHS I own. I've been considering ordering the DVD. Actually, it's on tonight at Midnight on one of the channels (I can't recall which one right now). It's one of my favourite SW movies. RW certainly made an impression with her first role. Did anyone see SW play the father in "Lantern Hill"?

I do not know how many people on this board still watch this show on a regular basis, but I have to ask has it lost its luster. I still try to watch all of the L&O shows. I still think they are a cut above the CSI crowd, and for me LOCI is a cut above the other L&O shows. With all of the assistants to McCoy, Serena seems to be almost most bland of all of them. It was beauty with brains for a lot them, but she seems to be beauty with bland. Just curious.

I catch it occasionally - I think it has lost its edge; the cop part is still ok; not too rocking - but ok and Lenny pulls it out and Green is just fine
But McCoy has been on that high horse for so long about so many things that I can't even hear him anymore. All I hear is the sound of Charlie Brown's teacher blaww baww blaww baww bawww Surely they could have kept him more grounded, he is like a crazed preacher. Yuck.

Yeah, McCoy was a lot more fun when Balcer was writing him, but I'd rather have him working on loci.
And I'm bored with Serena, too. It's classic bad casting. Elizabeth Rohm is very beautiful, but like Coth wrote, she's bland. It's not the character, it's the way Rohm plays her and monotones all her lines.

That would be interesting to see. Two powerful performers like VDO and SW in the same room. McCoy hasn't been quite the same since Balcer stopped writing him. Trisha, do you realize that Serena will be the longest lasting ADA (second chair) if she is still here next season? ETA: Just read on the NY Post site that Mayor Bloomberg is going is filming an appearance on L&O regarding a story about a murdered ADA! Anyone see the L&O guys on the SAG awards. Their table was right by one of the paths leading to the stage. There were quite a few shots of SW and people patting SW's back as they walked by.
