NBC have released the following press release on JLM's final appearance in the episode "Burn Card" (FKA "Righteous Shoot")
"LAW & ORDER" "BURN CARD"
04/23/2008 (10:00PM - 10:59PM) (Wednesday) : THE DEATH OF AN AVID GAMBLER PUTS DETECTIVE ED GREEN'S (JESSE L. MARTIN) BADGE IN JEOPARDY FORCING HIM TO REVEAL HIS TROUBLED PAST. INTERNAL AFFAIRS DETECTIVE KEVIN BERNARD (ANTHONY ANDERSON) IS ASSIGNED TO THE CASE.
A part-time referee is found murdered, and Detectives Ed Green (Martin) and Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) investigate the victim's gambling habits. The detectives are led to notorious hustler, ""Bunny" (guest star Bobby Jones), a familiar face from Detective Green's past. When ""Bunny" is found dead, Detective Lupo is called to the scene and discovers his partner, Detective Green, is the shooter causing confusion in the department and disbelief in the DA's office. The case is turned over to internal affairs Detective Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) and Sergeant Gregory Cole (guest star Peter Bradbury), leaving Detective Green to face his dark past and in danger of losing his badge. Losing his badge? That's how they plan on exiting Detective Green? I don't like it. Yes, it's much better than killing him off, but why not have him transfer? Maybe that will happen, he is asked to transfer to Community Affairs, or something like that. Thanks Jeff, for the info.

I sincerely hope the ethics and integrity of Detective Green aren't compromised or sacrificed just to provide an overly dramatic exit for the character as Jesse Martin leaves L&O. I have some of the same misgivings about the description of Goren's behavior in the upcoming "Purgatory" but reserve judgment until I actually view these episodes. I hope my faith in both shows is well-placed when they finally air.

My sentiments exactly, Techguy. If Green shot someone, it would be for a damn good reason. Years ago, didn't they touch upon Green possibly having a gambling problem? Even so, he is too good a cop and too ethical a man to do anything that would warrant losing his badge. I trust Rene Balcer to do the right thing by Jesse L. Martin. And I have no choice but to hopefully trust Warren Leight with Goren. He has continually assured the fans that Goren will be whole again. So hurry up already.

From the description of the episode it is rather vague as to the outcome of Green's badge. I think perhaps that Green shoots the hustler and after he is raked over the coals by IA and has remorse over shooting someone, he decides to leave the force. That's what I am hoping for. I don't want him to be forced out in disgrace.
I will miss him.

Here is a fantastic set (2) of video clips from Green's last episode"Burn Card" I was led by a poster at TWoP to this page over at TV.Com: Burn Card ClipsI think Anderson is going to be great, and gel well with Lupo. Don't worry...the outcome is not revealed, in case you want to be surprised

Didn't Det. Green have a gambling problem sometime ago that he got over?
