I am moved to say that this ep was best and worst.
The storyline hit a cracking pace. I was engaged frpm the first moment .
Then came the ending It was maudlin. 7th Heaven stuff, or worse.
Has Balcer outlived his time as a cutting-edge showrunner/editor?

PS to my harsh post above:
I think I should modify what I've said re Balcer, without changing my mind on the saccharine ending of this fine ep. By comparison, as I have been reminded, the seasons without RB were by and large dross. It's a renaissance for this, my beloved programme, to have RB back on board. But please, no more gooey wrap-ups.

It is bad form to address OEM's one post. Still...
In the aftermath of WWII when the Vichy collaborators were being rounded up to the south, and the Nordic collaborators were being rounded up in Scandinavia, the US CID (Counter Intelligence Department) made extensive interrogation notes. They are public domain.
Here, in abbreviation, are their points of advice when interrogating (no whips, chain, just questions)
Husbands and wives will give each other up
Mothers will give up sons
Sisters and brothers are resistant, but can be broken
Daughters will never give up fathers.

This is one of my favorite episodes from last season. As dragonsback mentioned, it was exciting, very fast paced until the end, which I found bittersweet, knowing the plot.
Daughters & fathers, what can you say? Let's just say that the daughter brought out the best in the father, as only a daughter can.
I found the whole New York City in a blackout plot line fascinating. Favorite scene being the one of Det. Lupo & company using their police whistles (circa 1890's) to signal each other while chasing a fleeing felon.
