From The Chicago Tribune: 'Law & Order' remains strongNovember 5, 2008 Excerpt: "Is there a way to write about the resurgent "Law & Order"... without using that shopworn phrase about old dogs and new tricks? It isn't easy. So I'll put it this way: If "Law & Order" doesn't end up on my annual top 10 list, it'll surely be on the runners-up roster. It has been consistently enjoyable since its revival began last season, and I'm happy to say the quality storytelling continues this fall in the show's 19th season. By now, I expect Sam Waterston and S. Epatha Merkerson to be top-notch as District Atty. Jack McCoy and Lt. Anita Van Buren, but Linus Roache (who plays prosecutor Michael Cutter), Alana de la Garza (prosecutor Connie Rubirosa), Jeremy Sisto (cop Cyrus Lupo) and Anthony Anderson (cop Kevin Bernard) are solid and compelling in their roles. One of the great joys of the current "L&O" era is that every tightly constructed plot starts in one place but takes so many twists and turns that you never know where it will end up. Take the story in Wednesday's episode of a stockbroker who is beaten to death—it's not about economic paranoia. And the story of a mentally challenged man who is supposed to testify as a witness in a murder trial in the Nov. 12 episode: It didn't go where I thought it would, and it packed an unexpectedly emotional punch."
