OK, have at it. Voting will close on Friday November 21 to allow time to rent and view the winning movie. Discussion starts on or about December 1 unless there are early birds who want to get it going sooner.
If there's time for a second movie before CI resumes, we'll do the second place finisher for New Year's.

Predictably, I voted Nightmare Before Christmas because I suggested it! I will not be in the least disappointed if we discuss Die Hard, which includes some of the most attractive bad guys on film!

What Sirenna said, on both counts, although if the Alastair Sim classic gets voted up, I would be enchanted also.

My choice is "A Christmas Story". It's funny, smart, and nostalgic.
2nd place would be "A Christmas Carol" which I also watch every year.
But my all time favorite is "It's a Wonderful Life" - the quintessential story of a man not realizing what he has until he loses it...thankfully only temporarily.

The poll is now closed after a very close vote among 3 of the 5 entrants. How the Grinch Stole Christmas will be our leadoff holiday movie for discussion, starting on or about December 1, followed by Die Hard as time allows. If there is interest, we could move on to the third place finisher A Christmas Story since there is no sign CI will be re-starting immediately after New Year's.
To prepare for our Grinch discussion, here is the IMDb page for reference.
Some initial questions to consider: ---Boris Karloff is mostly associated with horror movies like Frankenstein. How does his casting as the narrator/Grinch voice enhance or hinder the story? ---Is the movie dated or does it hold up well today? In what way(s)? As an original made-for-TV production, how well does the simple (by today's standards) direction and animation tell the Dr. Seuss story? ---WHY did the Grinch steal Christmas? Is the Grinch mostly a (reformed) villain, or does he represent a misunderstood, sympathetic, stressed-out Everyman? How do modern holiday celebrants relate to--or reject--what the Grinch represents? What, if anything, do we have in common with the Grinch after all these years? What is the Grinch's dog Max's role, and how are we to relate to this canine companion?

I have to confess that after working at Toys R Us during a Christmas season, my sympathy (and empathy) for the Grinch and Scrooge grew somewhat (g).
Has the Grinch replaced Scrooge as the ultimate expression of anti-holiday feeling?

Can't answer that question but I do know that I'm a bit of a "bah humbug" right up until Christmas Day!

I voted for "A Nightmare Before Christmas" - which I absolutely love and don't care for the other films. (I haven't seen "The Grinch" with Boris Karloff)
