There is no confirmation on the USA website that February 5 will be the Season 8 premiere date!

TV INSIDER: Goldblum Gives the Skinny on New 'CI'
With the eighth season of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" just around the corner -- it premieres Feb. 5 -- soon viewers will get to judge for themselves how well Jeff Goldblum follows the tough act of his hugely-popular predecessor, Chris Noth. Some of Goldblum's own talents are being incorporated into his character, Det. Zach Nichols. The actor tells us, for instance, that Nichols plays jazz piano, and tends to play when mulling questions pertaining to his cases. Goldblum is a jazz pianist in real life. Nichols will have quirks. Wouldn't people be disappointed if there was a Jeff Goldblum character without quirks at this point?
We'll "find out dribs and drabs how I've come to be the way I am," says Goldblum, speaking for Nichols.
"His parents were doctors in Manhattan -- they were shrinks, both of them. He's smart and well-educated, and rebelled and went into this blue-collar profession. It was tough early on, but he was a good cop, and he's become this sort of unusual and talented detective, who uses his exposure to the psychoanalytical, therapeutic world in solving crimes."
Nichols is also "unconventional in other ways," says Jeff. In one show, for instance, Julianne Nicholson's Det. Megan Wheeler character and his are "hot in the middle of the clues and evidence, and he takes off for a few hours. We find he's been at a revival house downtown watching 'Breakfast at Tiffany's.'"
How could he take off like that for a movie break? He says, "When I do that, I stop thinking in a way, and my subconscious takes over the elements and answers bubble up."
The esteemed film and television star says he's loving the work on "CI," and the fact he finds himself surrounded by "very smart people. It's very interesting to me." By the time he was shooting his third episode, he says he was "sort of on fire with it."

The media are now saying Feb 5th, instead of "second quarter" for LOCI air date

As V had four in the can, looks like Jeff and the new writer have played catch up well So it isnt out of the question or crazy to think it possible to start airing in Feb

Does the info in this piece sound very, very old to you, blummie people? I swear I've heard it all before - the parents, the movie, the whole sparse Zach Nichols schtick - and I suspect that TV Insider is probably a short straw job that was drawn this week by an intern or a lowly PA to a PA., and that the Feb 5 notation is just another bit gleaned from a quick Google. Just nothing new here at all. As for the filming for a third episode: perhaps JG did film a scene from a third episode, but the completed third episode is not on the burner. As AL indicated elsewhere on the board, a stretched Ed Zuckerman is most likely trying to salvage what's been filmed. I wouldn't have faith for a S8 debut in February if this 'story' is the cornerstone of that faith.

Absolutely right. It's recycled from an AR interview which I've already posted. Jeff is currently in Berlin promoting AR at the Film Festival. I was also surprised/sceptical to read that he had filmed a third episode for LOCI. With his recent schedule, when!? February 5 to me seems very dubious.

First off - I'm excited to see JG on L&O. He's such an interesting actor, he'll be a great addition to the show. I hope they didn't create another Goren, though. Jeff's a fine actor and he could pull something like that off easily, but the weirdo spot on LOCI belongs to Goren. Now it's fine to have a few quirks for a new character, because quirks define a character - especially if it's his own quirks, and not just recycled Goren stuff (I think they'll have to walk the line in the psychological department, because that's traditionally been Goren's playground). I hope they won't overdo it and Jeff will have the chance to work on and create his character apart from Goren. I hope his quirks won't overpower the show, but will be established one by one... let us get to know him "slowly". On a sidenote: Everybody who can't wait to see the S8 premiere - maybe it'll give you some comfort to know that I might only get to see it this fall/winter at the earliest... what's a couple of weeks, then...

Well said tjara, also the part where he takes off for a few hours, while he and partner Wheeler are "hot in the middle of the clues and evidence". I really will have to watch this, because these things are exactly what the audience question of a real life detective.

I resent the word Skinny being used, are they saying Jeff is Skinny and... Ok I won't open that can of worms again, but as an overweight person, I don't think they should have used that word.

I don`t think so ragincajun, i took it to mean the "little of", "not much" type of term. It seemed to me that Jeff couldn`t give too much away about his character or S8, so its the less of, or skinny of. As to you mentioning being over weight, all i can say is, everybody should just feel comfortable in their own skin. Love who you are, no matter what other people say or do, as those people usually are miserable types

Ragin, you don't need to be offended. To give or get the skinny on something is to tell or hear the inside story, the' low-down' (also an obscure idiom). More than you want to know: It seems to come from American hipster-gangster slang of the '50s, but no one knows exactly its derivation. It has been suggested that it was a takeoff on "getting down to the skin" of a story, below the surface, and it's also been suggested that it's slangy for the 'naked truth." In any case, it's an oft-used phrase in Australia and also, I believe, the UK, while apparently it has lapsed from usage in its country of origin. That said, I suspect the article header was also a play on Jeff Goldblum's "long-tall-drink-of-water" (hey, another piece of US-born slang!) physique

Ah, thanks for the explanation. I couldn't make sense of the title at all, as I'd never heard that expression before...
