I'll post more later, but I must reveal that I was upset to hear the exchange between Det. Lupo & Det. Bernard. It seems that Lupo is living with his sister-in-law Jenny and her two kids. She was married to his brother, who was murdered in last season's opener. They were lovers before she met the brother. I was just getting happily used to the idea that they had abandoned that storyline. Damn! Well...I'll trust that Rene Balcer has their eventual breakup already in the works. From what I've read on other sites, female fans do not want Lupo with Jenny. Ragin, your take on this? I know you like Lupo too. As far as the episode is concerned, I thought it was a very unique plot, and I wonder if it is from a RFTH story? And I was right that the location used was Hudson University ( how many murders can that school take credit for?) The ending was a bit far fetched, however. Cutter took a real chance assuming that Ned wouldn't remember what "his" Susan looked like.

Well, I don't like the Jenny angle, when we did see her she didn't treat him very well. I know those kids are his nephews, they are boys right? But I know even in real life the brother helps his dead brothers family, I only hope there is nothing romatic going on. It seems Jenny was interested in Det. Green at one time, so maybe he is babysitting while she is dating, I hope. To me, it would be confusing for the kids to have mom sleeping with Uncle Cryus.
As for the Episode, What a Villian! Carries a torch for this woman for over 20 yrs! After he was thrown out of a party. But of course in his mind he thought it was the Serority President's fault, so he tracks her down some 20-30 yrs later and kills her nanny and son so she will know the feeling of loss. He calls his wife Second rate, his daughter third rate. But I have to hand it to Cutter, who is also grown on me :-), The killer's Susan was dead, so he found another Susan who married out of her class, to make him think he really had a chance with his Susan. The killers reaction and confession wow. Then in the end, Cutter stating how hard it was to find someone in that serority that married out of her class, lol and that the real Susan, (the murder's Susan) married a rich man who murdered her.

Nice posts, folks -- but could we agree (all of us) to put spoiler alerts on any discussions in which so much of the plot and outcome are revealed? For the benefit of those of us who have TiVoed and not yet watched an episode -- and those who won't be able to catch it until it re-airs?
There's so much that might be discussed without giving everything away. For example, this episode's motif of pain; the familiar L&O theme of classicism as a morality tale; or the success (or lack thereof) of the writers and the actors in using every word and scene?
Or am I way off-base here, asking for a spoiler alert? If so, please let me know. I don't want to inhibit anyone's participation or pleasure in the episode threads.
Thanks,
AL
P.S. Always giving credit where it's due: "Pledge" was written by L&O veteran Richard Sweren (who co-wrote last week's superb "By Perjury") and playwright and Rene Balcer hire Gina Gionfriddo.

*raises hand*
Isn't Stabbler married fairly happily? I know they went through all the separation stuff and so on, but I thought in the most recent eps they were back together and happy? Then, I don't really follow SVU and have only seen very few eps (which definitely aren't the newest ones either, behind in dubbing, I guess), so I'm definitely no expert on that.

Tjara, I don't know that any member of this site considers Stabler "crush" material.

Annabelle, I do apologize if anything I wrote about the episode spoiled, or will spoil, it's enjoyment for you. Just so you know, most sites request that a spoiler alert be used until the episode airs on both coasts. After that, a spoiler alert isn't required. It's hard to know when everyone has had a chance to watch their taped episode. Also when it will re-air. And for some reason, this site doesn't have the usual spoiler feature. I'm not sure why it isn't available. And you're right...a handsome Law & Order lead should be allowed to have some luck with the opposite sex. But Lupo & SIL is a bad match, for obvious reasons (dead bro's ex? ewwwwwww ). Tjara, you are right about Stabler. For some reason, many women find him hot. Hence all the scenes with him in a sleeveless T shirt (aka "wife beater"). But I though that his marriage, although better, was still a bit on the rocks (in trouble)...thus giving hope to those who wish to fantasize that they would be a better mate for him?

Stabler is not my type, either - though I have to concede that he does look *gorgeous* in some pictures. But isn't that just the point? Of course some men are just handsome, but then again it's also always personal taste...

Of course some men are just handsome, but then again it's also always personal taste... I must admit, the first Law and Order I watched was LOSVU, then one day I kept on watching and then saw LOCI, I found Stabler attractive in that bad boy way that he was back then, I can't remember how long ago it was. Then when watching VDO as Bobby Goren how quirky and weird he was, I thought, "Finally a show I can watch and not be attracted to the lead actor." Oh well, time passed and Bobby and VDO grew on me and now Stabler has lost his appeal, geez Elliot get a vasectomy already, how can a cop afford 5 kids and his wife doesn't work?. Well now there is Psych at least those guys are just too young for me. lol

Meloni's hot. Who said he wasn't? ;-P
In Stabler's defense--if he's a traditional Roman Catholic, that would be a reason to opt against a vasectomy. And Kathy did work, initially, didn't she? She was a nurse or something?

I took note of that exchange too, DJ, but as an example of product integration: Skittles. Shall we "Spot the product" for the mothership too? AL

The "Skittles" reference did not escape me. And I smiled, knowing that you would notice it too. First Eames, and now Lupo. And why Skittles? The company makes other candies, do they not?

I'm just now watching this episode and I'm DYING because I'm from Amherst, Massachusetts - and we do not pronounce the "h". I'm 21 minutes in and they've already already said it incorrectly 14 times.
Argh!!
(Our town motto is: "Amherst, Massachusetts - where only the 'h' is silent")

I know this one has been discussed already here but I noticed that it is going to be on NBC this Saturday (March 21st) and I wanted to say that I liked the story so much I'm going to watch it again.
Anyone who hasn't seen it should plan to watch (or tape it). Not only is it a very sharp commentary on the barriers of social class in this country, Pledge is also much more of a mystery than most episodes. Twist ending too!
