Okay, please don't shoot me...I hated this movie. I watched it last night after receiving it from Netflix and getting all excited about it and I hated it. Even Vincent couldn't save this stinker...What a class A snooze-fest. I felt there could have been some interesting things developed with Vincent's character, Frank and Uma Thurman's character, Grace...but they never made it past the awkward small talk that says he-likes-her and she-likes-him without really saying it. I wanted them to get together, go for coffee, hold hands, kiss, do something ANYTHING for the love of God and all things holy! But nothing and I mean nothing happened between these characters.
Was it just poorly written? or do you think personal lives interfered with the craft? (Ethan Hawke directed this loser and was married at the time to Uma Thurman and is good friends with Vincent D'Onofrio)
Just a thought, but it's got to be difficult to portray a romance with your husband's friend. Especially with your husband directing.
Anyway, I'm actually angry that I wasted my time on this one. The only redemption I can find for this film is that it did have some great music. Not enough for me to recommend this disjointed, confusing, conglomeration of stories-lumped-together-under-one-roof to even my worst enemy.
I've finished my rant now. Sorry to have taken up your valuable time...Feel free to vent, I understand the anger of having your time wasted! ;D

Well, I just got through seeing this film for the first time. I certainly didn't have the same negative reaction. It is a pretentious film about pretentious artist types, and there were too many plot lines, none of which I think was really resolved. But it was nice to see a quiet film that asked you to think. All of the performances were first rate. Mr. D'Onofrio's role was too small if you went into this movie just wanting to see him. Ms. Thurman--whom I didn't recognize at all--was extraordinary. And Kirs Krisofferson was...God...just something else.
Look, it's not a great movie. Lord, I don't know if it's a good movie. I don't know if I'll want to see it again. But I just went with it and let it go like a meditation or something and I'm glad did.

Hi! I absolutely hated Chelsea Walls also...even VDO could not save it! I guess every movie he was in wasn't necessarily everyone's favorite, but that can probably be said of all actors at one time or another!

Patcat Last summer I decided to watch all the VDO and KE movies I could find (and some are SO HARD to find!) since at the time I thought there would be no more Goren and Eames. Just finished "Chelsea Walls" last night. Well. Ditto what Patcat said. I have to say that I am a bit relieved after reading this thread. Sometimes I watch a non-linear "artsy" movie such as this and wonder if maybe I'm just not perceptive enough to appreciate it or "get the message"; but I think that this was just a look into these people's lives. There was no story arc that came to any conclusion. (There wasn't right? I didn't miss something?) Their lives sure are different than my southern suburban soccer mom existence! LOL

Oh yes! I loved "The Whole Wide World" too! It is my favorite of VDO's movies that I have seen so far. I'm hoping to get the book "One Who Walked Alone" soon.
