Thanks for posting the video Z-Girl. He sure knows how to play to the gallery! Have you watched the video on the right-hand side "Backstage: How Jeff Annoys his Friends"? LOL I agree, he is a great pianist Ladyheather.

Show's Recap JEFF GOLDBLUM Which one was he, "10 Speed" or "Brown Shoe"? Every time Jeff Goldblum is on the program, I hope Dave throws out that question out of the blue. Dave is correct in his description of Jeff Goldblum; quite odd and weird, but engaging and very interesting. I see Jeff as a confident guy without any confidence. Jeff says he likes to look good and spends a whole lot of time trying to look like he doesn't spend a lot of time on how he looks. He's not alone in this. You see a lot of today's actors living life with neatly unkempt hair and wearing perfectly mismatched clothing. It's the style today. My girls are victim to that a little. My wife will say, "It's time to go. Where's Dominique?" I'll say, "She upstairs getting unready." Jeff was disappointed when he noticed something the other day. He spends hours looking just the way he wants; to look cool and Hollywood without looking cool and Hollywood. He wants that unique look everyone has today. He'll go through hundreds of eyeglasses until he gets just the pair that's right for him. He is very happy with the pair he's wearing now. But then he saw an HBO movie poster of "Grey Gardens." On the poster is Jessica Lange as the elderly and odd and crazed and unbalanced "Big Edie" Beale. She is wearing the very glasses Jeff is wearing. Jeff fears that he and "Big Edie" have similar taste. Jeff is originally from Pittsburgh and came to New York City right out of high school to pursue acting. He tells a very funny story of working in the chorus of a play and then getting his big break when one of the leads couldn't go on. The actor was Asian, but that had nothing to do with the role he played. When Jeff got the call for him to fill in, he went to a professional make-up artist to make him look Asian. He realizes now that it made no sense. And of course nobody said anything or commented or praised or ridiculed his transformation into a tall lanky Jewish-looking Asian. He looks back at that now in cringing amusement. Jeff is a student of acting and teaches acting as well. Can acting be taught? Jeff says it can and it can't. Good acting takes talent and you need to be good at making pretend. Jeff then praises Dave's appearance in "Cabin Boy," reciting Dave's lines from the 13-year-old film. Wow! Dave is right; Jeff Goldblum is weird. We have a ventriloquist on later in the show. Does Jeff know ventriloquism or tricks? It just so happens that Jeff does know some tricks and he has a rope to demonstrate. Jeff takes the 30" piece of rope and ties it into knots and makes the knots disappear with a simple yank and tug. Oooh, I should give him my iPod ear-buds. Jeff Goldblum -- he's on the "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" on the USA Network, Sundays at 9:00 PM. Michael Z. That's a decent recap of Mr. Goldblum's appearance, although it doesn't begin to capture his scatterbrained charm and intelligence.
TEN SPEED AND BROWNSHOE--that was a charming show. I believe Mr. Goldblum was Brownshoe.

You are welcome Annabelle.
I like his "cringe" story and his guide to acting:
you need to be good at making pretend.
I wish Letterman had pursued this further with Jeff.

It would've been way more interesting than watching this Ventriloquist...

". . .you need to be good at making pretend. . ." Nicely summed up. He's one of those actors that is good at making pretend. I was just watching The Lost World last night and I'd forgotten how adorably neurotic Ian Malcolm could be.
