Dave Itzkoff New York TimesApril 14, 2009 A Few More Words With Jeff GoldblumSanford Meisner instructed Jeff Goldblum to be himself. Last week, we shared with you a snippet from our conversation with Jeff Goldblum, in which the actor (of “Igby Goes Down” and “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension” fame) confessed his abundant enthusiasm for his coming gig as Detective Zack Nichols, the newest lawman on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” Lacking the wordsmithing skills (and the manual dexterity) to fully convey (and transcribe) Mr. Goldblum’s excitement, we hoped an audio clip would suffice. This morning, we offer you another extended outtake from that interview, in which Mr. Goldblum explains how his acting style evolved under the tutelage of Sanford Meisner, the celebrated acting instructor at New York’s Neighborhood Playhouse. Once again, we hope that an audio clip of his remarks will suffice where words alone would surely fail. Jeff Goldblum explains how he developed his acting style. Thanks for posting J-Fan. I would have liked to have had more from JG on this topic since schools of acting have become somewhat of an interest of mine.
JG and VDO are both method actors but from (what I understand are) quite different schools. It will be fun to compare notes on approach and style throughout the season.

You are welcome Annabelleleigh. I was disappointed too that it was not a very lengthy interview. I found it interesting that he had read Marlon Brando' biography. Maybe Jeff was thinking that: he coulda been a contender [on Criminal Intent]! I do know from a previous interview that Jeff does not stay in character when not actually acting the part even if still on the set.
