This upcoming episode concerns the killing of illegal aliens on Long Island.
If the title seems a bit odd, consider this: It -- and the episode "All New" -- may be a direct message to NBC's publicity unit by the frustrated producers of L&O. If the promotion folks get the message these two stories may be re-titled by their air dates.

How clever of them! I hope their ploy for some promotion works. ;D
The subject of illegals is one very close to my heart. In my job, we deal with many families who are here from El Salvador & the Dominican Republic. The stories I could tell. Any one of you would have done exactly what these people did to escape the poverty & desperation they experienced.
Sorry, off the soap box. I'm confidant that Rene Balcer will tell a true story that educates the public. Especially that the vast majority of those here illegally are good, law abiding people who just want the opportunity to work hard & feed their families.

When people talk bad about Illegals, it makes me think aren't we all decendants of Illegals? What happen to the Statue of LIberty "Bring me your huddled masses?" Didn't we use to welcome all? Didn't people come here for the right to persue Happiness? Off my SoapBox too.

I don't think the NBC publicity unit got the message because all it has circulated about this new L&O episode is a description (no new publicity stills so far), which follows.
AL ---------------------------------- LAW & ORDER PROMOTE THIS! 05-06-2009 10:00PM A STRING OF HATE CRIMES AGAINST HISPANIC MEN LEADS TO A CONTROVERSIAL CASE INVOLVING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
Detectives Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) and Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) investigate the case of Oswaldo Morales (guest star Hector Javier Munoz), an illegal immigrant found unconscious but still alive on a service road. When the detectives find a possible link to Oswaldo’s attack and nine recent bias-related incidents, they uncover a deep-seeded, dangerous bias against Hispanic men within the community.

This sounds like an incident a year or two ago. A white male driving a car jumped a curb and tried to mow down a line of Hispanic men waiting for work near the service road of the Long island Expressway in Farmingville. Several of the men were hurt. The practice is a constant hotbed of debate. Really looking forward to a new episode.

This was such a fine effort. So well played, with just the right shading of detail and complexity. Tug at the heartstrings and cold reality both. Is there any way they could revitalize classic CI in this manner? I can't help but think CI would benefit from the effort and energy that was clearly applied here.
