Here it is, folks. The Top 50 US Television Shows, according to the London Times. Validation from the Mother Country means a lot to you all, I'm sure, but sadly LOCI doesn't make the cut. Nor does SVU, but Original Flavour does. The top three are 1) The Wire, 2) Battlestar Galactica and 3)The Sopranos (Some shows in reruns or still running in the UK like Sex and the City and The Sopranos, are on the list) Anyhow, here it is. Enjoy the droll and deft Times potted snapshots. A sampling: CSI: "The most successful US export since McDonalds, Coca Cola and armed conflict. Even though the science is about as plausible as magic beans, CSI is hugely popular and has spawned an entire genre of procedural dramas." . Flight of the Conchords "Formerly New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo accapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo, Flight of the Conchords’ comedy concoction was originally part of a BBC radio show before becoming an American TV hit. The second season has just finished in the States ... complete with the best song about an epileptic dog you are ever likely to hear. " Enjoy, or if not, please do not spit on your monitors at inclusions or exclusions as it may cause offense. entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article6061203.ece

Thanks Dragonsback.
I read, enjoyed and wasn't tempted to spit once!
Damages at 41 would have been my number one. Quite surprised to see Supernatural at 11. Just started watching this show and rapidly becoming hooked.
Not surprised The Wire is number one. Just loved the: episodes are like Pringles. Just gotta finish that box!

Ok, we don't get all of those (and I think never getting "The West Wing" was a huge loss) - but what does it say about me, that none of the shows I currently follow are on this list? ;D There's a few that I liked to watch (ER, DH) - but none of my current interests and I have to say I'm absolutely surprised that none of the Star Treks is on this list. But it's only current shows, right?

So much good stuff on their list (and a good amount of crap too)! And I quite enjoyed their blurbs, heh. We don't have any "premium" channels, so we end up having to wait for a lot of the good shows to come out on DVD (I heart you, Netflix), so it seems like we're always running behind on things and then watching them in intense obsessive marathons. The Office, Weeds, Pushing Daisies, The Colbert Report, Flight of the Conchords, 30 Rock, Deadwood, Dexter, Mad Men...and some great shows they left off (no Carnivale?? Rome? Come on, people!). Ahem, I watch a lot of tv. ;D

DB, I had read that article when it came out and it features many quality shows. I'm lucky enough that I'm able to enjoy premium cable. Such shows as True Blood (I am an Alan Ball enthusiast, Skarsgard fan-Gen.Kill, etc.), 6FU, Dexter, Californication (I know may not be the taste of many but DD brings an essence to his character, Hank Moody, that rings true), Breaking Bad (which I have unfortunately only seen twice and never dvr'd the show) and many others brings up that that regardless of an ocean barrier, many taste are shared. It's unfortunate that LOCI didn't make the cut. I do think it's a good show and should be watched, but hey that's my opinion. I was able to get my father addicted to the show two years ago, while coming over for Sunday dinner. I am glad that the original did make the cut.
