DRAT! I'll have to wait for the DVD. The closest theater to me is in Fredricksburg, VA, which is a little over 100 miles from me.

Yeah, just checked. How is it that the closest The Narrows is playing to San Diego is Las Vegas? A five-hour drive. I'm not fundamentally opposed to a trip to Vegas for a weekend, but it shouldn't be so difficult to get to a movie.

I don't think VDO will be there, If he is I hadn't heard about it. But then I wasn't even aware Charleston had a film festival until last Wednesday, call me chagrined ( one of my favorite Rodger's lines). I have really become a big fan of his lately after watching LOCI and seeing several of his movies, so If he is there it would definitely be a drooling fan girl moment as OBC puts it.

Maybe I should come to Charleston! LOL! If only I could afford that trip at the moment! Ever since I moved back to VA from SC, I've been waxing poetic about Charleston and pining for that lovely southern woman of a city.
*SIGH*

If you came OBC, do you think the Terrace could handle all the drool?

I think I'd have to bring a bucket, just in case! Jeez, thinking about Charleston makes me drool in a whole other way. Between Vincent and my all-time favorite city, I'm really a mess now!

Saw this movie yesterday. I really enjoyed it and so did most of the people in the theater. The screenwriter was at the showing and she stayed for a Q and A session afterwards. She said that the book it was based on was written before 9/11 and she wanted to update it for today. She said a lot of the film focused on the love story part, that at it's heart it was a father and son story and I could see that. She also said that the main character in the book was not a very likable person and another change they made was to make him more likable to movie audiences. They still kept him as somewhat morally ambiguous. She also commented that they had heard Vincent D'Onofrio was a hard person to get along with but that they didn't find that to be true. She said Vincent and the director got along very well. She said that at the premier the movie will be show in 12 to 15 cities and that after the showing there will be a live hookup with the cast for a Q and A session. I would love to be able to go to that. Now about the movie, I don't generally like movies that involve the mob but this movie didn't glamorize it at all. It certainly showed that it is a unwise and dangerous road to take. The main character, Michael is trying to go to college and become a photographer, but can't afford it. His Father played by VDO doesn't believe in taking loans and refuses to allow him to apply. So in his desperation for money he takes a job as a "delivery man" for the local mob boss. His father has a fit when he finds out about it and tells his son that the mob boss now owns him. He has a girlfriend played by the incest victim from the episode Death roe, but he falls for a girl he meets at college. He has a friend, played by Eddie Cahill from CSI NY, that figures prominently in the movie. I read in the review first posted on this thread that they thought he was miscast, but I have to disagree, I thought he did a wonderful job. I won't say any more about the plot, but I found the movie absorbing and I was surprised by some of the twists. I think all the actors did a fantastic job, but by far the best performance was by Vincent. He did a fantastic job and the scene he has at the end of the movie is just priceless! This movie is so much better than most of the drek out there, I can't believe it doesn't have a major distributor. Even without being a Vincent D'Onofrio fan I would have enjoyed this movie. I highly recommend it and believe me, just when you think you know how it will end it really surprises you.

Great writeup idget. Maybe I'll have to rethink that Vegas Vacation I mentioned up above.
