Jeffan, I agree that the trailer scenes seem very tongue in cheek. A Coen brothers style of storytelling. Not sure if the actual film is like that, since the interviews we have from VDO about it are translated from French.

I have just seen this film (courtesy of Netflix).
I thought it was good. Its rather disjointed until the end, when the three subplots merge and things make sense. Vincent was very convincing as a confused mobster. The biggest surprise for me was Julianne Nicholson's performance. She was great! I've never seen her in a role where she was so expressive and emotional. An excellent actress that her role on LOCI never allowed her to bring out.
Some scenes are very violent, and not for the squeamish.

This is the strangest movie I ever saw.
The bathing suit: He looked like a red seal pup. I kept waiting for someone to club him. They never talk about why he was holding his breath for practice and why someone was filming him.
It had too many flashbacks and they were confusing, at least at first.
There was too much with the deaf man and not enough Vincent in the tree. And who was the younger man trying to kill him? From a rival crew, I presume.
Still, Vincent was strangely empathetic and hot in this movie, especially when he is wounded and saving the tree. Ethan Hawke was annoying and why does this MF get top billing? Vincent is so nice he probably insisted.
Parmy had an almost Norman Bates like thing for his mother, or you could call it being Italian.

Fozzy, you seem to be on a bit of a kick getting to see Mr. D'Onofrio's recent films. How/Where did you get to see this one?
