Thanks for your warm welcomes! Funny I'm the only one from the Netherlands. I think there are many more fans, but they aren't here apparently haha. And thank you for your compliment about my English, DonnaJo! English is my major in university, so hopefully it will improve further

I'm from a small "tourist" town in Western Michigan. When I was a kid I craved the excitement and adventure of big city living. Since then I've lived in Miami, Florida and Brooklyn, New York. Now I'm back in Michigan raising my son 10 blocks from my childhood home. As a parent I have more appreciation for the small, picturesque, and safe community we live in (everyone seems to know everyone else) I still really miss New York though and visit as often as possible. I'm giving some serious thought to moving back after my son graduates High School.

Love reading everyone's views of what makes their town great - it's never what you'd see in the guidebooks. Ok, here's mine. I live in Toronto. What I like about it is... * I work in the city centre and live beside Lake Ontario; a fifteen minute drive away where canoes and kayaks are regular accessories in my building * The city is clean even in the middle of a garbage strike (believe me when you depend on public transit that's an important thing) * It's popular for film, TV and music production which makes for interesting transit rides home (Was that a spacecraft on top of that building? I think this was for Defying Gravity ) Or why is there snow on the ground on Queen Street in June? (That one was for The Listener ) I've lived in a lot of places. My parents moved us often - they said for fun and, on my own I've seen parts of Asia, Europe, North and South America and Western Canada. But after all that I think I'm home now. For now. I have a hankering, every now and then, for British Columbia and New York City, lol

Hey, I only found this one now. It is fun to read where everybody comes from. I was born and brought up in Southern Germany, an area called "Odenwald", 50 km away from Heidelberg. When I finished High School I had met the man of my life already, and he was studying in Berlin (that was even before the wall came down......) and so I did the same. We have stayed in Berlin ever since, got married there - well, technically we got married on U.S. Territory, since we got married in the American Community Chapel, a military church there - and are active members of the American Church in Berlin. What I love about Berlin is the variety. We only live 15 min away from the center of the city, still, here is little suburbia. Water, Trees, Parks, playgrounds, a rather quiet area. Altough I now need a car to get from my daughters' school to work, since there's no direct connection, I love this part of the city. Berlin offers something for every interest, every budget and even though the city suffers from great financial troubles (most big cities do, I guess), the cultural offer is still great. I am sure there are not many cities in the world with THREE great opera houses, for example. Berlin is pretty cosmopolitan and tolerant (although you should not park your mercedes in certain areas of the city around the German Labour Day on 1st of May..... ) On a sad note, Berlin, now the Capital of Germany, has such a lousy wage level that many people need additional welfare because the money they make, even with qualified jobs, is not enough for a living anymore. That concerns many single mothers, for example. The weird consequence is, that in this city you can live pretty good on welfare (we have a very high-level-welfare system over here), since the retail sector arranged with that.... Bluefairy: Ik hou van Holland! I have spend all my vacations there when I was a child and I dearly miss it, since my last visit is 7 years ago. High time to go back there. I love the landscape, I love the chocolate (van Houten), I love all the water.....and I could just move into the Van-Gogh-museum in Amsterdam!

Cleveland, OH-you can see that on my old posts. Only back for a short time and I'm enjoying my visit. (Go Browns!) To bluefairy: I've had the pleasure of spending time with several Dutch guys, all very charming young men from Windesheim University. They each interned at the office where I work. Even got to meet the family for one of they guys. Would love to visit Netherlands some day.
