It's a bit Mary Tyler Moore-ish but perhaps more effective in its simplicity and open endedness. Lights out but life goes on.
LOL Techguy. Eames must have been ambitious in her career as she joined the force as a cop on the beat, transferred to vice and then detective in major case squad. And then, even though the senior partner, she was willing to play second-fiddle to someone her junior. So, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was to be a kiss and a cuddle!

The points about the obstacles to Alex being captain are well taken, and you're all probably right. She probably likes the hunt too much to want to be a captain. The Goren/Eames relationship is complicated and rich. Whatever it is and whatever it involves, I'd hate to have it end. Patcat I agree with Hargiteam42 about the obstacles to Eames getting promoted to Captain (and no, you weren't rude at all for posting your opinion). Even if Eames wanted this position, wouldn't she have to be promoted to Lieutenant first, via NYPD exam scores and such? I don't see her bypassing Lieutenant rank and moving up directly into a Captaincy from her Detective 1st Grade level. If that would happen she'd outrank and do an end around other NYPD, most notably in the L&O universe, Lt. Van Buren for one.
And yes, the G/E relationship is complicated and rich. No offense to those who wish otherwise, but I for one hope the writers don't ruin it or their exit with an overt declaration of any romantic ties. It should not be clearly defined so that shippers and non-shippers alike can imagine G/E going forward whichever way they prefer. No kissing or hugging...please.

I agree with Techguy. There shouldn't be any kissing/hugging etc on screen. Even if I were a shipper (which I am not), a kiss at the last minute would just annoy me anyway. It's too mushy, and not really the best way to end their run on the show. And, obviously, to me a kiss would be out of character at this point, and I think keeping it ambiguous is the best thing to do. You can imagine your way, I can imagine mine, and all is fine and dandy with the world.
Let it be a case of they continue the way they have been for all these years. Whatever happens, just keep them the way they are (at least on screen) and have it be a decent send off.

To kiss, or not to kiss, that is the question: Is it nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outraged fans, and to take Eames in my arms against a sea of troubles, to kiss, to cuddle. And by that action we end the heartache, ‘tis a consummation devoutly to be wished. To love, to kiss, perchance to dream: ay, what dreams made real, for in that love we can bear the whips and scorns of the malcontents.
With thanks and apologies to The Bard.

Jeffan--Terrific! Hagarityeames--I didn't think you were rude at all. You made a valid point very well. Everyone else--there's a large part of me that agrees with all of you regarding any display of affection.

Let me second that terrific to Jeffan. How clever you are, my friend. No kiss for Goren and Eames, please! I love the ambiguity of their relationship, which is the only thing that Leight and company didn't throw open the curtain on and ruin for me. An awkward hug would fit nicely at the end. A long overdue acknowledgment that they both care about each other - not only as partners but as friends.

Oh my goodness, that gave me a laugh. Well done ;D When I say I want a kiss, I don't want some huge sloppy wet kiss. That'd just be overboard. If we can't get a kiss, can we at least get a hug? That's pretty neutral ground. It could be love, it could be friendship, whatever you please.

Yeah I agree with Techguy. No kisses. That would be awkward. If there's any hugging, it can't be lingering 'cause that would imply more than friendship. So I guess, its all in what KIND of hug would be acceptable. Though, whichever kind it is I can see people misinterpreting it so for that reason I would prefer G/E not to hug on screen.

They are playing the previews now on the USA site. OMG! Thanks for the heads up, Angua. Very intense, indeed. Looks like Goren is being set up by the FBI? And did Ross say that he sold his soul? Still no indication of who dies, although we do see an explosion. Nichols to his new partner (after all of the drama)...."See, it's fun here." Here's the link to the USA page: www.usanetwork.com/series/criminalintent/

**SPOILER - ish*** There's something to be said for people who don't crave spoilers. They have self-control and they're smart... I can never help myself so, what happened when I was watching the promo for LOCI? WELL....rumors had it that one of the characters would be killed off. Hope that's not a surprise to anyone (hence the spoiler warning)... Anyways, I couldn't help but try to dissect the promo. So, I paused it a few places. And, at the part where someone puts a gun and badge on the captain's desk, I paused it. It clearly shows the badge number - I thought I knew what was going to happen and felt like I just HAD to confirm it - so I did a search for the badge number in wiki (in relation to one of the characters) and it told me something else. Now I'm 99% sure who's gonna die... 'cause there's only a limited reasons why the gun and badge would be handed over... Plus, after seeing the show quite a bit, I've figured out whose hands they were/weren't...a fact I'm aware of, is a little sad. :0) I figured I'd be nice and not tell anyone here who I think is going to kick the bucket - just in case you want a surprise, but anyone who wants to know, can do a search like I did - or just ask me. Whichever... Just had to share - I'm glad I know but also not happy. I'd like to see a SUPER Happy excited ending for all the characters. Love, babies, sunshine, for all!!!....but yeah, that's not lookin' too promising.

I'm now not too sure whose hands are placing the badge on the captain's desk - I just saw it on a clearer site and a bigger screen... I'm already confusing myself. I'm gonna go nuts until the episode airs.
