I finally got hold of Dream With the Fishes last week*... and wow. I'm still not sure what that was about... Any thoughts? I thought she played a great role, but the rest of the film was a bit odd. *only six more to go, now ;D

Ah, now--for me, that movie is all about this scene: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtnIxNq4BIQSometimes in those early seasons one forgets that KE is downright amazing, given the scope.

Yup, that's a great scene. I find it astounding that she's been presenting strong performances pretty well since she started in film. I guess all those years on stage really helped

I do wish she'd been in more films. I'd way rather watch her than a few megastars I could name. That to me is a high point in her movies. I know a lot of people like Stir Of Echoes, but that to me is a much less subtle performance. To me, her best performances on LOCI have that type subtlety (loved the scene with Jimmy in Brother's Keeper, for instance, and I could go on).
Dream with the Fishes is not my usual kind of movie, but I have watched it more than once and enjoyed it. It's quirky, yeah, but it is not pretentious. One thing I thought it was about was how you have to be forced to interact with the outside world to become a whole person (although that may be me personalizing it). I also thought that it could represent how we don't choose our friends. I liked it.

I know I've said it several times already, but I'm kind of glad she's kept such a comparatively low profile - certainly better than being splashed across the tabloids every month

I agree.
I just think in an ideal world she'd at least get something that would give her some Emmy consideration. Maybe she'd need to be as "out there" as Mariska in terms of the character. The things I always like best of Eames are the most subtle ("Albatross" I thought was particularly good, a better all-round performance than "Blind Spot.")

Reviving this thread for deathroe, who wanted info on the Addiction (I d/l'ed it a couple of months ago but it won't run on my dvd player, so I've not yet seen much of it). Anyone who's seen it through want to comment? ;D

quote: nicolemarie December 10th, 2006 Breathing Lesssons - A friend made me a copy of this! (SHHH!!) Her role was small and she appeared towards the end of the movie. Her former mother in law coaxed (tricked) her into coming back to their house for a visit but once she realized what was really happening, she bolts. This is another where she appears as very young, delicate and fragile. She was also about a decade older than the character she was playing here, too.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quoting myself from "Literary Obsessions : What would you recommend?" December 29th, 2010 When I thought LOCI was over (well it was over for me when G/E left) I decided to watch all the VDO and KE movies I could find. If a movie is based on a book I try to read the book first because it will fill in any gaps that the movie might have. I found a copy of Anne Tyler's Breathing Lessons- a Pulitzer Prize winner BTW- in a used book store and the video tape of the movie a few weeks later in a thrift shop! (I'm a treasure hunter ) I enjoyed the book very much. It was easy to read and funny, sad and real all at the same time. The main character was ditsy, but her husband was down to earth enough to keep it believable. The movie was very true to the novel (just a little sweeter in the end). The story isn't one that ends in a tidy package with a crisp bow on top. I had to think about it and arrived at the conclusion that it was all about how a long-married couple stays in love and weathers changes within their lives...as well as the things that stay the same. More here: www.imdb.com/title/tt0109335/Kathryn Erbe is cast as Fiona, ex-daughter-in-law of Maggie (Joanne Woodward) and Ira (James Garner). The ex-husband Jesse is played by Tim Guinee who guest starred on LOCI as the dad in "Bright Boy". (He recently starred in a short film with Kathryn Erbe called "Mother's House" which I think is going to be released in various film festivals next year.) "Breathing Lessons" isn't a fast moving action packed kind of movie, but it is sweet with some funny and sad moments and a great cast! Of course I thought KE was wonderful and looked great. FYI
"Breathing Lessons" will be shown on the Hallmark Channel January 20th, 6:00 a.m. Set those DVRs or enjoy breakfast and a movie!

When I was not feeling well last week,(I have to make excuses for watching weird movies) I watched "The Addiction". it actually has a well-known cast: Christopher Walkin, Annabella Sciorra, Edie Falco, Lily Taylor, and Kathryn Erbe. KE's role was rather small, but as always she put a lot into it! I don't like horror flicks so I didn't really enjoy it. I did learn that vampires have bad breath! ;D
"Breathing Lessons" will be on The Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Channel HD on April 15th, 4:00am.

" The Addiction" was on one of the Encore channels recently. KE had a short scene with Lili Taylor so I capped it and made a SLIDESHOW. The captions up through the "OW" pic are mine, but the rest are actually lines from the movie.

Of course I thought KE was wonderful and looked great. This was on the Hallmark channel again recently so I made a slightly spoilerish, wildly paraphrased SLIDESHOW. I focused mainly on KE's character Fiona, so there are plot gaps in the slideshow. ( mj!)
