Okay folks. OT discussion here now that the other thread is locked. Got my own opinions about that. I'll save them for now.
The thread title is exactly how it sounds. Anyone who would like to continue the discussion from the "saving" thread, feel free to jump in here. I am going to ask that it not become a free-for-all, but I would also ask that the mods not be so quick to edit and delete. People need to be honest and say what's on their minds, so let's let them do it. I can't hurt to have an honest discussion.
Thicken your hides before you post here, please.

Honest in one thing, rude and insulting is a completely different matter. That will not be allowed and the posts will be either modified or deleted.
So, if you don't want either of those things to happen, please keep it civil.
ETA: The other thread was only temporarily locked while I had time to review any offending posts, but I take it I don't have to waste my time and can leave it intact and closed.

Well, I really wondered what was going on..... It seems every time I check in, the thread I want is locked.
And oh my, what happened to the Saving Robert Goren thread? That was not what I started it for... Looked to me like it went way off topic.
I don't see what the problem is here. You post where you want to post. Be respectful. It's easy.
If I show up here again, it will be on threads that interest me. Probably only analysing Goren and Eames epis. And Saving G&E because I've put my heart and soul into it until I had to take a break.
I won't bash JG, never have. Wouldn't occur to me. I don't have time to watch him, it's that simple. Why would anyone bother bashing anyone - unless they enjoy behaving badly? And I've certainly seen that here.
I fully expect this board to continue with the incredibly thoughtful analysis that I grew to love and have learned so much from. I am hugely indebted to this board for reawakening my love of words and story analysis. I just won't be visiting threads I have no interest in - or I know will raise my blood pressure!
I will step out now, and not come back to this thread (unless I'm crazy), because I do *not* have a thick skin. And I'm glad I don't.
Hey, I miss this blue screen!!

Word, QFA. I, for one, have quite enjoyed the Goren, Logan AND Nichols episodes. It was always about the storytelling for me.

I don't make it a habit to be rude and insulting. Those who do should take heed.

I have enjoyed the whole show for the past eight years. I loved it when they brought Mike Logan back, and I tuned in to see what they would do with Zack Nichols. I have never bashed JG and never will.
I have stated that I will not be giving NBCU/USA the benefit of my viewership and therefore adding to their ratings. I've been scolded for it, too. Unless those veiled references to "those who won't be watching the Nichols episodes" did not include me...
I don't like dirty pool. Never have. And that is the game that NBCU has been playing for awhile now. I'm fed up. Plain and simple.
I will be catching up with Nichols in repeats, though. And with the Mothership, too. I'm just refusing to watch when it matters to the network - for their ratings. Once in syndication on Bravo and TNT, this isn't an issue the way it is when the episode is a "first run".

No reason to close the other thread. We had a nice discussion going on that was interesting to many. I accidentally went off post to mention something about Andy Griffith, for which I am very sorry (it was just for a couple of comments). I will not let that happen again (it was only an attempt at humor). I certainly did not intend my comments to close the thread. Upon review you will see it is a minor blip. I am not aware of anything uncivil going on in that thread or any improper behavior. It will be difficult to continue the discussion here without reference to the prior posts in that thread. Please reconsider opening up the other thread again. Thank you!

WF, I do have a suggestion for that, since the thread is still there. Copy and save the posts you need to reference and repost the parts of them you need to reference here. I think that would be a fair way to handle it, if the mods would rather the discussion continue here.
I don't get the impression that it was the OT jokes that caused the locking. It was the fact that the discussion turned to the idea that some people seem to feel like they can't discuss the new episodes and it went from there.
I will say that the idea that anyone is discouraging folks from discussing the new season to come seems a tad bizarre to me. There is a thread about the season opener, another about Love Sick, and still another about the new cast members.
I posted once in the Love Sick thread and it was a ding directed at NBC, as I said they should take "Love" out of the title. If it will make everyone feel better, I'll edit that comment out.

While you were posting this, I was copying the discussion posts into a new thread called "where do we go from here", but the mod asked me to stop. He is going to go through that long thread that is locked -- I guess to deal with whatever the complaint was that he received. I asked if we could move those posts about that discussion (which started yesterday) over to the new thread -- we can move here, I don't care. I hope he does let us move some of the posts, because I would hate to lose the entire thread like we did last time. I guess the lesson is we have to start new threads more often. No offense was intended by me to anyone reading that thread. I was just responding to AL's thoughtful comments which I htink warrant discussion.

If you want to save those posts, you can copy and paste them into a Word document and save them on your computer. I do that with a lot of posts, so that I have them for reference.

I wish I had thought of that earlier -- my thread was sent to the Glue Factory. Hopefully, we can resurrect the other thread so we can continue that interesting discussion. I don't understand what the problem was with that thread and would love someone to tell me what the issue was so I can me sure not to do it again. It took the wind out my sails -- I was really looking forward to finding out what other board members thought and thought the discussion was being held in a thoughtful and polite manner.

Apparently I missed it too and I was there. I am not aware that anything rude or insulting was said -- this should absolutely not be allowed! It may have been that it got off topic as OBC suggests and another thread should have been started. I hope the mods will let us start a new thread and keep the old posts. We'll see what happens. It was just a very good discussion we had going.

Wilmintonfan, I fear that my comment regarding how some OT discussions are OK, while others aren't, may have led to the thread being locked for perusal by the Admin. I didn't mean for that to happen, but I can see how after 5 years, the Mods can tell when a thread might be going into dangerous waters. As Sarah Palin would put it - "going rogue." If its OK, I think the "Saving" thread should be re-opened. I promise not to hijack it with my own OT discussions. There will be updates about the petition, the NT Times ad, and hopefully info about VDO, Erbe and Bogosian that will be coming out down the road? I wonder if we really need another CI renewal thread at this point? It looks like there are many threads to accommodate the different facets of the show.

Thought I would pop in and tell you what’s been on my mind. I don’t want to start by rehashing old news, but I’ve been sitting on my feelings for some time now. Firstly, if the NBCU network had delivered the news about the “cast shake-ups” with more of an explanation, I doubt this site would have become so divided. For me CI did become more about the characters and their personal storylines. How can you not identify with them? Don’t we all know someone (or are someone) who has become fractured either due to life choices or through the uncontrollable circumstances of our lives. Don’t we all know someone who grew up in a troubled household or is addicted to something? Not to mention we’ve had 8 years to develop these bonds, for some of us, we simply weren’t ready to say good bye to our beloved characters as quickly as others on this board have been. Everyone needs their own time to be angry, commiserate, mourn, and finally move on.
Now regarding Goldblum fans, “we” are all guilty for making them feel unwelcome. We are guilty, but not to blame. Personally, I hold the NBCU network responsible for the terrible way information about the “cast shake-up” was handled, I mean 4 main characters leaving and the only one sticking around is the new guy? Seriously? What show does that?
Regarding comments made about some “Goren” fans not feeling welcome, I totally get that, in the weeks leading up to my deleting my account, I felt overrun and unwelcome. (pity the CI renewal thread is gone it makes my point for me) The tone on this site had gotten ugly thanks to certain members, and that particular thread. (on second thought I’m glad that thread is gone, it’s time for me to let it go and start fresh)
Anyway, I didn’t come back to play “kick the carcass” I popped in the other day and read AL’s posts about the upcoming S9 episodes and they sound interesting but, I have a question, where’s the “lighter-fare” we were told we were getting. Those episodes don’t sound “fluffy” at all. Was the “lighter-fare” just a nasty rumor or words taken out of context?
On a serious note, I would like to say that in some ways you’ve all become part of my family. Granted it’s a “virtual” family and we will have issues with one another from time to time, but I have no doubt we will work it out.( agree to disagree on certain issues) I’m sure the *Mods* will step in from time to time and scold us (as loving parents often do when the kids are misbehaving)
And PC, I really enjoy the EOTW too! Please continue to do them. While its "slow" think of it as a vacation. Put on some island jams, fix yourself a fruity frozen drink with an umbrella, put your feet up and relax. Demands for EOTW will increase as S9 draws closer.
Best Wishes to everyone Sorry for the long post
