Thanks for posting the info on the new showrunner, caitlen. For me, this is great news! I know Walon Green wasn't the only writer who penned some real bad scripts, but I always got the impression that he really didn't care about the show. Not like Rene Balcer and Warren Leight did. Hopefully this new guy will care. The show deserves a final season to be proud of.

A reason to live through the next year, I know, I'm almost getting hopeful for the new season! I mean, I was glad there was going to be a new season, but with the same showrunner on deck, I was also quite wary of what was to come. But with this new guy in charge, who knows?

I mean, I was glad there was going to be a new season, but with the same showrunner on deck, I was also quite wary of what was to come. But with this new guy in charge, who knows? The new guy, Chris Brancato, wrote the L&O-SVU episode "Branded" which will be on NBC Wednesday Dec. 22nd at 10:00pm. I didn't see this episode the first time it aired in October, but I have already set my DVR. I know it is just one episode of a different show, but maybe it will give us an impression of his writing.

Thanks for all the info about the new kid on the block. Hopefully some new blood at the helm will infuse new life--and some needed great scripts--into CI for its 10th season.

Julia Ormond To Co-Star On Final Season Of 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent'Julia Ormond has been tapped for a season-long arc on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She will play the only major new character that will be introduced in the crime drama's 10th and final season on USA Network. Appearing in all 8 episodes of the season as a guest star, Ormond will play Dr. Paula Severin, a brilliant police psychologist who will be conducting mandatory sessions with Detective Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio), helping him unravel his tortured past. Ormond's casting comes just 2 weeks before the Season 10 premiere on May 1, with production well under way. How will she appear in all episodes? She will start right away and, because her scenes are contained mainly within her office, the producers had planned to film them together, apart from the rest of the action. Shooting those scenes is expected to take a few days. www.deadline.com/2011/04/julia-ormond-to-co-star-on-final-season-of-law-order-criminal-intent/

Well, boo. I was kinda hoping that as we hadn't heard anything about the psychologist, that they had dropped that angle of S10.
Is Julia Ormond considered enough of a name that she'll get a lot of scenes? ETA: per the USA press release she won an Emmy for Temple Grandin, so yep, I'm thinking she's enough of a name, lol.

Perhaps the show couldn't only get Ms. Ormond for a few weeks. There are weirder and worse reasons for strange shooting schedules. Perhaps these scenes will bookend the episodes. We'll get to see Goren in these sessions at the start and end of the shows, while the bulk of the episode will be the crime and its solution. This could be quite interesting.

I love your optimism and enthusiasm for this show, Patcat. I tend to be relentlessly negative (about everything, not just TV, lol) but I'm working on it. I've always thought that the psych sessions would be isolated from the crime of the week. Bookending is a good approach.

So the new Captain is not considered a major new character?
