TO THE BONE
Will air October 11, 2010, at 9pm (EST) on MyNetwork TV. First aired May 7, 2005. 20th episode of Season Five
Written by Charlie Rubin and Warren Leight. Directed by Jean de Segonzac.
Guest Actors:
Robert Clohessy (who played the officer who committed suicide in BADGE) as Roger Lemoyne
Carolyn McCormick as Dr. Elizabeth Olivet
Leslie Hendrix as M.E. Rodgers
Whoopi Goldberg as Chesley Watkins
Synopsis: A home invasion leads Logan and Barek to a manipulative foster mother.
Quotes:
Cop: “It’s like Charlie Manson in there.”
Logan: “Where you’re going?” Barek: “Well, yea, sleep, remember?” Logan: “You live all the way in Brooklyn. My place is right down the street. I’ll take the couch.” Barek: “I don’t believe you got a couch that big.” Logan: “Yea. Maybe not.”
Logan: “Too bad near misses don’t count.”
Logan: “Ten years on this island are finally gonna pay off.”
Queries:
Many people liked this episode when it first aired. Techguy offered a fine comparison of Chesley to Medea. Many people also liked Whoopi Goldberg’s performance. But some thought this was more of a mothership story than LOCI. The original discussion unfortunately spent a lot of space comparing Logan and Goren. (I thought this unfair to both characters, but especially Logan, who can’t even get attention from one of his best episodes).
What does distinguish the Mothership from LOCI, and vice versa?
Is Chesley Watkins a rewrite of Nicole? How effective is she as a foil for Logan? Why didn’t she return? How does she maintain her hold over her “children”?
Is Ms. Goldberg’s casting a bit of a stunt?
How would Logan handle Nicole? Goren Watkins?
What does this episode reveal about Logan? Barek? Their relationship?
Does Barek have grounds for going to Deakins about Logan’s behavior? Will she?
Does Logan belong in Major Case?
What is Logan’s relationship with Dr. Olivet? (Fans of the Mothership might offer some enlightenment here).
Comments:
I’ll always be grateful to Chris Noth for coming on board LOCI if only for giving the show more life. But I always think that once the Logan episodes stopped feeling as if they were originally written for Goren and Eames, and the writers began writing for Logan (they never did seem to writer for any of his female partners), some of the Logan episodes were very good. In the case of SENSELESS, worthy of ranking among the best of LOCI. TO THE BONE isn’t that good, but it’s solid and interesting, and I like this attempt to give Logan a rival. Too bad she never returned.
Submitted, as always, for your comments and consideration.
