It's my understanding from the VDO/DW conference call that the shrink sessions start in Ep.2 (Consoler) and will go thru the end of the season.
I suspect that with the late casting of Julia Ormond and the decision to reshuffle the episode order, tptb just decided to forego the shrink scene in Rispetto. Dick Wolf said they would only be one scene an episode.
Which did make me wonder what would they have cut from Rispetto to insert that scene. Oh well, lol.

The shrink scenes are being filmed separately. I think there's a thread in the General Discussion area on this.

I've learned to check my expectations at the door. I was entertained and these days, that's the most I can hope for from television. I enjoyed seeing Goren and Eames back in step again. The Gorenisms fit accordingly. They were there when you expected them but they weren't over the top. He wasn't doing them just because they were expected. I got a chuckle with the "are you texting us?" line. I liked the scene with the wife too. Jay Mohr surprised me. I'm not a fan, but I thought he did a really good job. Heterosexual fashion designers. ;D

copied from the wrong place: They seemed to be more like they were in the earlier seasons. I loved that Eames had her snark back!!!!
Anyone notice that the new capt. used the phrase "step into him"? Sound familiar?
I don't look like I did 10 years ago either! LOL I admire that KE didn't get herself all botoxed, collagened, and siliconed. She looks like a real woman and she is beautiful. VDO looked thinner than in the last few seasons.
Techguy: a solid but not very spectacular episode to mark the return of Goren and Eames.
Ditto that.
Ditto Moonbeam too!

To echo Techguy and others: Solid but unspectacular. However, "Rispetto" deserves some respect and here's why I think so:
Professional, polished script from Wolf Pack veteran Rick Eid. I'm grateful for the fact that he knew enough about the characters to give Eames back her snark. If you remember how much we moaned about the lack of familiarity by certain Walon Green scribes you might find some gratitude for Eid too.
Though the procedural was fairly standard, VDO and Erbe performed with obvious enthusiasm. One bit was sterling: Goren's "lying" phone call to the perp. VDO attacked it with relish, aping a fashioniste stereotype to perfection. For me, it was a laugh-out-loud moment, and (as most of us would agree) there's been damn few of them in recent G/E seasons.
However, I couldn't shake my disappointment that this out-of-order ep didn't connect with events at the beginning of S9. This is a core fan thing, I know, but USA, in fact, is relying on core fans to revive the series (despite all the thumping about this being CI's final season). Note to the network: Don't disappoint us again.
I can't say how well Jay Sanders -- a fine actor -- is going to fit in because he had almost nothing to do in the episode. I hope he's getting paid well because there was no meat on the bones thrown to him.
Last note (for now): When I laid eyes on Leslie Hendrix as Elizabeth Rodgers I felt the warmth of seeing an old friend. Silly of me, I know -- because she didn't have much more to do than Jay Sanders -- but there you have it: the comfy slipper effect many of us seek when watching beloved TV series.
AL
P.S. Kudos to Jay Mohr -- though I didn't think his character was anywhere near as obnoxious as the real Charlie Sheen. (Another small blessing).

I must second this (well, I second this entire post but especially this). I hadn't realized how much I missed Rodgers until I saw her last night. I've enjoyed her character both on CI and on the mothership so it was wonderful to see her again in a new episode. Especially with Goren poking at the body, lol.

I hope the numbers are solid. "TV By The Numbers" has the results on Tuesday, or is it Wednesday?
Sundays at 9:00pm seems like a good time slot. People are home. settled in to watch TV. "Desperate Housewives" isn't the powerhouse it once was. Same for "Celebrity Apprentice." And USA network has always supports LOCI in general, much more so than NBC ever did. I think even halfway decent numbers would result in a Season 11 [fingers crossed].

Loved it! Hate that they showed it out of order so we don't know till next week how they got back but everything else was great. Jay Mohr very good as a fashionista Charlie Sheen. Maybe it's my short term, but I can't remember why does the guy kill both of them and how?
I didn't guess the killer right away. I assumed it was the shrink because of the exchange between her and the wife and she was the less obvious choice.
Loved the "Let's lie" scene-that laugh! He does a gay affect so well!
Rodgers looking better with longer hair and I think I will probably like the new captain as well.
Verry Happy!

I think your reasoning for showing this episode first was solid, AL. I would have liked to have seen some explanation, but for the nonfanatics this was probably a better offer. My expectations may have been low. I was just thrilled to see Ms. Erbe and Mr. D'Onofrio on all cyllinders.

I thought the episode was solid with many little moments that made me really happy to have the Goren (and Eames) Show back in town! A few such moments: Goren striding in (engaged and already gloved) to completely take over the Sara Belle crime scene, patting the bench, the texting comment and the "Obviously" comment , the phone call ("Let's lie! ); oh, I could go on, but the point is that it was Criminal Intent! Goren and Eames on the case and bringing down the bad guys and the snarky Eames: "to make us think you didn't"; " the cesspool of his mind"; "you're a train wreck"! I thought it might be weird starting the season "in medias res" or the "middle of the action", but then I thought about it and I think it was better to start with a case rather than explanations about what had already passed. I guess I'm thinking: Start with action and follow with exposition. There was the serious moment when Goren says he's sorry (that the guy's brother died of a drug overdose) and he says he lost his brother in the same way. As far as the "Sheen" thing goes...it was different enough that I really didn't think about it and Jay Mohr did a great job! All in all, Happy! Happy!

I thought he was too hard on the "Obviously" guy. You can't do anything for drug addicts unless they want it and it wasn't his job.

Loved it!.... but I can't remember why does the guy kill both of them and how? ...Verry Happy! Hey MJ: Is this some of your delicious humor? Because while you "loved it" you couldn't remember the why and how of the homicides. ;-) Yours is a precise summation of what was wrong with "Rispetto." I'm here to tell you that I'm having trouble retaining who was killed, in addition. Oh I'm sure all the under-appreciated TV showrunners got it, but -- once again -- this particular ep had no reason to exist, except to capitalize on the nation's momentary fascination with yet another overprivileged, highly-deluded celebrity. A moment that was long gone before last night. Note to Wolf Films: If you're going to rip from the headlines please pick headlines with more gravitas than ephemera. AL

I've been wondering how the psych sessions would be intergrated into the shows and that exchange last night made me wonder if Rispetto had a psych session if they would use that snippet of personal info on Goren as the transition to the psych session or if the session would be about his relationship with his brother...
FWIW. Rewatching Rispetto now. I really love how engaged VDO and KE are. They missed Goren and Eames as much as we missed them, lol.

Having experience with addiction I know that, yes, you can't fix anything unless it comes from the addict. However, the guy quickly went to the wife and the shrink to try to "protect" his own financial interests and the IPO.

You can see it in the opening sequence of the show when they walk together, give each other alook and they are practically grinning!
