Since Nielsen ratings are essential to keeping CI on the air beyond these eight S10 episodes, here's a place to track our show's progress. Season premiere ("Rispetto"), Sunday, May 1, 2011: Law & Order: Criminal Intent attracted 5.102 million viewers, a great start for the season. Had Osama Bin Laden not been killed on Sunday night (pumping the numbers for cable news) CI would have made the Top 10 in Nielsen's weekly cable rankings. Instead it's at #11. By contrast, the season debut of In Plain Sight (which followed on USA) drew 3.867 million viewers. More significant metrics to follow. In the meantime, rejoice! And hope that the weekly ratings stay in the 5 million+ range. P.S. Weird stats: followed by SpongeBob, in Plain Sight and then LO SVU. On the other hand this forum keeps having more than 300 guests per day . We did have close to 400 on May 2nd (I don't remember the number).

Thanks for starting this thread, Annabelle! I was hoping that either you or Techguy would take this on. The weekly numbers are going to make or break USA's decision for a Season 11. If the ratings hold up, and if VDO & Erbe are willing, USA will have to offer Wolf another season. No matter what that exec said.

I'll take 19th. Surprised IPS was out of the top 25 considering it immediately follows. That's probably a good thing, LOCI doesn't need a strong lead-in to succeed.

Here's another article on Sunday's ratings. CI was the #2 ad-sustained program on Sunday night in overall viewers, coming in after the NBA playoffs, but it was tied for seventh place in the key 18-49 demo. The premiere episode was both #1 in total viewers and #1 in the 18-49 demo so it's a bit of a tumble. That being said, I'm not sure what USA needs to see to get us another season, ie. maybe these ratings are strong enough... www.thefutoncritic.com/ratings/2011/05/10/sundays-cable-ratings-game-of-thrones-continues-climb-133214/cable_20110508/(Funny, some of the comments on this article were about people being annoyed that Rispetto didn't explain how G/E got back and maybe if it had, we wouldn't have seen a dropoff in week 2...)

As some of you know, I make my living as an audience analyst. So I'm glad to see the interest in numbers by forum members.
Yes, indeed, it's common for a TV series to drop in audience cume after its premiere episode. However, TV executives tend to see it this way: Publicity and heavy on-air promotion, pre-premiere, juices viewing. It does so by causing "sampling" (by the curious -- some of whom, it is hoped, will return, perhaps even as weekly viewers).
So the important measure is, how much audience was lost (or gained) from premiere to episode 2?
CI lost approximately one-third of its premiere audience in week 2. That's pretty bad, even with NBA and other competition.
Of course, what will matter, in the end, is how much net revenue S10 brings to NBCU, and how sellable the series might be for a S11.
AL
P.S. If I were producing "In Plain Sight" I'd be worried already.

Thanks Annabelle.
As you know, I’ve always appreciated your analytical/number crunching skills so look forward to your comments on the weekly ratings.

I was happy to see the numbers go up a bit. I'm proud that LOCI is the top original scripted drama for the week.
Now for my rant! Do NOT read further if you are a fan of reality tv:
I for one am sick and tired of all the cheap exploitive reality junk that passes as entertainment today. I kept thinking when reality tv was starting that it would be a phase, but now these are cheap to make and we are waaaay more voyeuristic as a society and the networks don't want to pay for quality shows with great writing and acting. People are watching this sub-standard drivel and I for one don't understand! My television viewing is very selective and I don't get why so many people watch this excrement.
Sorry, I know the bottom line is the benjamins, but if we don't expect quality shows and a higher standard of entertainment value how will we ever get them? Or is it already too late?

I'm with you Leonore! I hate that junk! TV is the Coliseum and way too many people are watching other people getting "eaten".
I enjoy docu-drama type things - like Deadliest Catch or Ice Road Truckers...something that is more than just stupid melodramatic nonsense. It's got that element of reality - as these are real people doing real jobs with personalities that sometimes clash - but they are also altogether different from that other trash.
Like that stupid Oxygen show Bad Girls that I can't seem to get away from because while watching the LOCI marathons on Oxygen each week, I am assaulted by their idiotic commercials. Stupid immature girls being overly dramatic and even more stupid than I previously thought anyone could behave. BLECH!

Thanks for posting the ratings Kacesq - slightly up is always better than slightly down. Maybe the Spidey episode will boost the ratings.

I'm curious, how do these numbers for season 10 compare to season 9? One of the reasons by USA for it's decision to cancell the show were the numbers for that sason, so I'm wondering if the numbers are similar, this was s USA said all along simply a goodbye run for the fans to have a proper farewell? I saw the ratings for episode 1= 5.1, episode 2=3.6, episode 3=3.8 , if they stay at this level, will they be good enough to ensure a change of mind by USA and give us a season 11? Any thoughts?
