Just saw the finale tonight. Overall it was good, better ending than last season. I couldn't help but compare it to the movie The Social Network (based on the Facebook creators - good movie btw). Twins, the best friend of theirs, the person writing code stealing their ideas...the business guy they hire to get the word out about the business and was also a coke head... Yeah you can tell this episode was about what happened with the Facebook creators.
I have to say though what impressed me the most in this episode were two things:
1) even the killer was talking about love. You don't see that very often in L&O where the motive for murder is love, usually you see it as lust or jealousy...or money or something. Real love causing her anger (aka crime of passion), I'm glad they went that route for once. It was refreshing. However, I do agree with some of you that there was no hint to the woman being in love with Tom which would have been nice.
2) I was impressed with the guest star James Vanderbeek. He was Dawson in Dawson's Creek years back. I occasionally watched that show but hated the character of Dawson. I've seen Vanderbeek in Criminal Minds once as a killer and he was amazing in it. He was great in this episode too 'cause he really did seem like an arrogant, drugged up douche.
I kind of wish there would have been something more to the end to make it more satisfying. Maybe when Goren came out of the visit with Gyson and got into the car, Goren could have asked Eames her opinion on his personal life - a woman he wanted to ask out, a hobby he wanted to pick up... something on the personal side. And since Goren had that blow up with the doc about it being 'too late' for him to have a family, it would have been nice that maybe in the therapy session he could ask the doc's advice on that very thing. Like maybe he was interested in a woman but couldn't work up the nerve to ask her out or something.
I think, these little personal things were missing 'cause it would have given more closure for me. You know, show some more hope for the guy considering all the super-crazy-angsty-deaths-and-my-daddy-is-a-serial-killer drama that we've had the past few years.
It was an okay ending and I'm glad Goren didn't give up on his job. BUT I was also waiting for the clip I saw on a commercial where Goren tells the shrink "I can't keep doing this". It was on Youtube and a link through Twitter but they didn't have it in the episode. It makes me want to know what the unedited conversation was.
