Ok so what did you all think of season 10? What did you like and what didn't you like?
Things I liked where the writing, for the most part it didn't let me down. The Last Street in Manhattan and Icarus were my favorites. Loved all the Gorenisms that were back, you could tell that the new show runner had watched the previous episodes and knew the characters well. Loved the state of the Goren and Eames partnership, they were working well together and enjoying each other. Loved meeting Eames' father, he wasn't what I always pictured, but It explains a lot. I loved how it ended, that Goren and Eames were driving off to another crime scene. In my mind that was how it always ended for me.
The psych sessions were just ok for me. The first few were really good and had me expecting a lot more for the rest, but I felt they petered out and were a bit of a disappointment for me.
The thing I was most disappointed in was the non explanation of how Goren and Eames came back and what they had been up to. I think it was a big disservice to the fans not to explain that. Another disappointment for me was the Captain. I knew he and Goren and gone to the academy together because I read the press release but would the average fan? I was looking forward to seeing the friendship between these two but for the most part they acted like the didn't know each other very well.

Ok so what did you all think of season 10? What did you like and what didn't you like? Great topic- I love it! Season 10 had a much more personal focus and gave us great insight into Goren and Eames’ emotions. The cases were interesting, but IMO it was more about the characters. There was a strong theme of love found and lost throughout the eight episodes. I agree 100% with this! I also loved To the Boy… The case itself wasn’t memorable, but it was loaded with subtext: kismet, fate, destiny, true love, “I want to believe”, etc. I don’t think the case was even supposed to be the point of that episode! I saw more at the end than just driving off as usual, so I was very happy and satisfied. The nonverbal communication between Bobby and Alex wrapped it up perfectly. <3 The psych sessions were just ok for me. The first few were really good and had me expecting a lot more for the rest, but I felt they petered out and were a bit of a disappointment for me. I liked them when all was said and done, although I admit the last few had me on pins and needles. Again, perfect ending. I loved that she said that if everyone lies it means he lies too; that he can’t trust his own judgment. I’m happy knowing that Bobby trusts and respects Paula enough professionally to continue therapy so he can have a life beyond the job. We were also treated to more personal information about Eames. She joked about using a dating site in Consoler and talked about how difficult it was to meet a man in Boots. Last Street and Icarus had a lot of parallels between her and the women involved in the cases, and when Paula asked Bobby if he was lonely, the next shot was edited to focus directly on Alex’s face. I felt like we were being told that she was lonely and wanted to find love too. As I saw it, the ending tied up all the loose ends for both Bobby and Alex. The thing I was most disappointed in was the non explanation of how Goren and Eames came back and what they had been up to. I think it was a big disservice to the fans not to explain that. I am so with you here! What were they thinking? Another disappointment for me was the Captain. I knew he and Goren and gone to the academy together because I read the press release but would the average fan? I was looking forward to seeing the friendship between these two but for the most part they acted like they didn't know each other very well. He was pretty much useless IMO. This season was a wonderful way to say RIP LOCI!

I agree but I loved the captain and the shrink, that was the best part of the show for me.

I also like the writing and Gorenisms, I also didn't like how there was no explanation on their return or anything shown between Goren and The Captain. If they were supposed to be old buddies back in the day why didn't they seem friendlier or at least show more affection than the Goren/Captain relationship Ross came on a few years before?
I didn't mind the ending overall of the finale episode but as a non-shipper, I felt it was a little weird with all the smiling when Eames picked Goren up. I was afraid the show might end it with Goren and Eames kissing which to me, would be so out of place and never once led up to. So I was relieved when Goren just go in the car and said 'let's go'.
I didn't mind the psych sessions but I think I agree they did taper off a little. I would have liked to see some progress, or a hint of something. IMO it would have been nice for Goren to bring up some of his personal life or mention a woman he met, etc. But overall it was an OK end for the show. Could have been better but it could also have been much worse (like the last season).

Oh, I think Goren made tremendous progress. The fact he's willing to continue therapy shows that.
I would've liked to have known what happened to Donny. And who Molly really was.
But I was very happy with what we got.

I enjoyed Season 10 because Goren and Eames were back. D’Onofrio and Erbe were present and happy and energized to be there in the moment. Brancato and the writing team brought these wonderful characters back for us to enjoy and I am so grateful for that alone, not to mention partially blotting out my memory of the travesty of their first exit from the show. There were layers in the writing and in the stories for us to examine and ponder. I was constantly being struck with mentions and images of time (running out of time, a time to love, a time to mourn, a time to kill, a time to repent, a time for justice, a time to question and a time to reflect, time [and lives] moving forward--moving on) and clocks and watches and circles (coming full circle, coming around again, back to the beginning, we begin again, the labyrinth, etc.). As a non-shipper, I was pleased with the ending of the season (or series) finale. Goren and Eames standing together talking (reminiscent of Season 6 Siren Call) and then Goren leaving Eames’ side to walk around the front of the vehicle to come full circle to climb into the passenger seat beside her to head off to the next case, their partnership secure and continuing into the future. “Let’s go!” In addition to the ones mentioned above, the overriding arc of parent/child relationships tied the episodes together for me. How parents raise, love, use, abuse, shape, ignore and endanger the child/children within their orbits. We hear Goren say with regret that he “pimped out his family/mother” and the story of papa Goren and lying to his mother and we see Eames’ somewhat prickly relationship with her father. Most of the eight episodes had obvious parent/child relationships, but a few were more subtle. The Consoler had “Fathers” of the Church betraying the “children “ entrusted to their care. Both Theresa and Johnny were victimized. In Trophy Wine, it was the daughter’s insistence that she was not a whore like her mother that led to the murder of her husband. Icarus had the producer trying to live up to his father’s accomplishments and falling to earth far short of his father’s legendary legacy. In The Boy in the Blue Knit Cap the father of the twin boys was more pleased with the harsher twin who broke into the office that led to the death of his gentler (more loveable) sibling and ultimately his own death. Were some of the episodes a bit weak crime-wise? I would have to say yes, but I was too engaged by the performances of D’Onofrio and Erbe to let it get me down. I have always been a big fan of the Balcer era and the very first episode aptly titled One had the true Criminal/Intent balance for me and it was that which got me hooked on LOCI. That, plus the amazing work of D’Onofrio and Erbe! In the later years the criminal and the intent got overshadowed to a large degree and at one point (I confess) I thought it was gone for good. Kudos to all involved for trying to reintegrate the two in Season 10…again, coming full circle. I’m grateful for this gift we were given (even though---once again, USA had to monkey around with the episode order! WHY!!!!) and I hope we get the chance to join in more investigations with Goren and Eames in the future. That’s my roundup! (Oh…another circle ).

Lovely post, Leonore.
I agree with Idget (thanks for the thread) and everyone who would have liked more between the new Captain and Goren, but I understand how time restraining only having eight episodes to bring Goren and Eames back full circle put on the writing and editing. I bet you that there is cut footage of dialog between Bobby and the Captain that they opted not to include in the 42 minutes of the completed episode.
Overall the season was wonderful. Yes, I too was uncomfortable with all of the silence and meaningful looks between Goren and Eames at the end. That wasn't real to me. IDK.... if I were Eames and Goren just said "good" when asked how things went (aka did he lose his job) I wouldn't have just let it go at that. I guess it's supposed to show how she knows him so well, therefore that he doesn't have to verbalize?

I also loved season 10 and wish USA had promoted it more! What did you mean about Goren and Eames looks? Did you think they looked good? I thought Goren was slimmer and trimmer and his hair was a nice gray. Eames was smokin' with her long hair and new wardrobe. IMO they were beyond HOT! If my husband gave me a hall pass I'd go out with either one of them. Or both. Separately or at the same time. (well, if I could manage to meet them and get them to agree) ;D Thanks Leonore! I was just having a little bit of fun!
