Since I just can't get over this, I feel compelled to tell pretty much everyone about this.
My OLD neighbourhood (in London, Ontario - Canada) has had a NEW riot on St. Patty's day. Why? College students were bored and drunk. That's all. It makes me furious. They took what was once a family neighbourhood and gradually taken over. Some people can't afford the costs of lawyer fees & movers to get out of there since they do have a lot of expenses raising their own children so they're stuck....in the middle of THIS:

Yep, So that's about 1000 people and $100,000 worth of damages AND a news truck was overturned and set on fire! Families stayed inside their houses, probably terrified that the students would start breaking in. I know I always was when there were parties with a couple hundred kids running around at the time. I was around 24 at the time and I found it scary! Now I'm 30 and I can see how much worse it's gotten.
When we lived there my parents called the cops all the time. He was on a first name basis with the dispatcher at the non-emergency line. He sent letters to our member of parliament and to city hall. He went on the college radio and they still did nothing. We moved but yeah, a lot of people are still stuck there living in hell while the students take over.
I went away to school in Toronto. I lived in residence, people drank a lot, did stupid things but we NEVER did ANYTHING like this. There were some fist fights people had and dumping soap into fountains for fun, or just going to clubs. What's wrong with these people?
And what is WRONG with their parents? Did they never teach their kids what respect is? My parents did and even though we're not perfect, still to this day, if I say something disrespectful, even if I'm away from parents I feel bad.
Sadly, My sister has seen this with children as young as 7. Yes, that's right 7. She's a substitute teacher and goes back to one school all the time. This 7 year old girl swears at teachers and has thrown a chair at one of the them. Parents get called in and they just day "you're doing your job wrong. My girl isn't like this at home" and that's it. There's no such thing now as letting a kid repeat a year at school they get pushed forward, end up graduating and therefore, get rewarded for their behaviour.
I really hope all of you who see this who are either parents, aunts/uncles, or just friends with people with kids have a serious talk with the children and make sure they know how to respect people because honestly...I'm 30 and already I'm worried about what's going to happen in 20 years when these kids are going to be running the shots. It's scary.
Oh and if London, Ontario sounds familiar to you (aside from me mentioning it once before), Chris Noth has a business here 'once upon a tea cup'. Just thought I'd add that little tid bit.
*Sigh* I really hope this never happens again but sadly, if it happens here, it can happen anywhere.
