Question: I registered and got a user name, but I didn't get my activation email. Should I register again?
Answer: Please don't. In order to keep our member list accurate, we ask that each member register for only one user name. For whatever reason, AOL routinely rejects all email sent from Proboards. If you are using an AOL email account, you may have to register again with a yahoo or hotmail account. If you still do not receive your activation email, you may email us via the contact page of our home site and we will help you get activated as soon as possible.
Question: Yea! I got my activation code, should I start a new thread to test if I can post and tell everyone I'm here?
Answer: Welcome, we're glad to have you, but the answer is no. You can reply on any existing thread that interests you, or on the welcome thread in the Welcome & Help Center where you are sure to receive warm greetings from the other members. Please post any questions you may have about how the forum works in this area - this will not only help you, it will also help other posters who may have the same question.
Question: I have an idea for a new thread, can I post it?
Answer: Sure, but please take a look around first, because there may already be a thread with the same or similar topic.
Question: I just love that Goren guy, can I tell you all the things I like about him?
Answer: Sure, just keep it clean and more importantly, interesting. Discussion on the how and why people like any character is very welcome, but we don't want to know your sexual fantasies or read something like, "He's so cute." over, and over again.
Question: I don't have much time to read posts, can I just post what ever and where ever I want, and not read the rest?
Answer: No. Have a little respect for your fellow posters. Active message boards have conversations, not just statements. In order to converse, everyone needs to be in on what’s been said so no one gets lost, and redundant statements are few and far between.
Question: What?! I have to read every post on the whole board before I'm allowed to post?
Answer: No, you don't have to read them all. You just need to be up to date on what has been posted in the last two pages on any thread you choose to post on.
Question: Who cares about proper spelling and punctuation on the internet?
Answer: We do, and not just out of pure anal retentiveness (though we admit we're working on that). The truth is, if you make your posts too difficult or time consuming to read, people may not read them. We are not going to grade you or correct every misspelled word, but please be advised that...
Dyslexics, please do not fear posting here. We understand that text based communication is difficult for you guys, and that spell check programs are not very helpful to you. We applaud your courage, and will do our best to make you feel welcome here. Just let us know that you are not being careless or lazy.
Question: I found an image on another site and want to repost it on your board, can I do that?
Answer: If the image itself is clearly offered by the site you copy it from, then yes. BUT, just because the site offers the image, that doesn't mean they're offering to PAY for you to use it. Before you post a hotlink, make sure the site allows it. If they don't say, take that as a NO.
Question: What is a hotlink and why would this not be allowed?
Answer: Hotlinks are created when you right click on a web image to get the image url and use it to repost the image elsewhere. A site may not allow it because it uses the site's bandwidth (amount of data transfer) which in most cases, the webmaster is paying for. That means that an unauthorized hotlink is STEALING. Don't steal.
Question: If I can't hotlink, how can I repost the image?
Answer: Find a free web host that allows hotlinking and create an account to host the image yourself.
Question: If someone is violating one of the rules in the FAQ is it okay if I tell them?
Answer: Sure, just be nice about it.
Question: What is a troll?
Answer: Definition of a troll: someone who only visits a message board to kick up shit and ego trip all over the place.
Characteristics of a troll:
Any such behavior will not be tolerated here. No one likes a troll. Don't be one.
Question: What do I do if I see a troll on the board?
Answer: If you encounter a troll, DO NOT FEED IT. In other words, do not argue with a troll. Report the offender to a moderator via PM, and s/he will be dealt with by the staff. In many cases trolls can be tamed by warnings, but in severe cases the problem is only solved by banning.
**Note: Quarreling with a troll only brings you to its level, and in that case, you may find yourself banned, too.
Question: Someone else edited or deleted my post. Who could do such a thing and why?
Answer: Only you and the site moderators can edit and delete your posts. If a moderator has edited your post, he/she will usually let you know why on the post. If a moderator has not left a reason for the edit on your post, or your post has been deleted, check your PM's and email for a message from him or her regarding the issue.
Question: What is a moderator?
Answer: A moderator is someone who works for the site. A moderator is able to delete and modify posts; delete, modify, and lock threads; and suspend or ban user accounts. The site moderators will be monitoring all activity on the board, so watch your P's and Q's.
Question: I got banned. How did this happen, and can I come back?
Answer: How did it happen?! Don't give us that crap, you were either warned that you were skating on thin ice, or you were so blatantly rude or hostile that the moderator who banned you refused to give you a second chance.
Can you come back? That depends on how offensive you were. A moderator may choose to ban you by email address, in which case you can get a new user name using a new email address.
Don't even think of asking for your old user name back. Not gonna happen.
And if you come back with a new user name and in anyway notify the other posters who you are and a moderator finds out, you will be banned again. Banning by email is not the only way to ban a user. Don't take advantage of a good thing.
