I enjoyed sitting down to another LOCI commedia del arte with "But Not Forgotten". Alicia Coppola did not dissapoint as Isabel. (Does anyone remember her playing the "vampire" doctor with porphyria in CSI?) She has those huge, dark, doe eyes that can play innocence so perfectly. She had everyone fooled, except Goren, who also played her with his "sympathetic cop" act, even to the point of holding her hand when he said "Sweet. Revenge is so sweet" (paraphrase). The fact that I was effectively misled too until the last 3 minutes of the show proves to me that the writing was perfect.
My only complaint is with NBC promotions: if they hadn't set me up with the original trailer about a "black widow", I would have been 100% fooled.
While Isabel was weaving her web of revenge, Eames was enjoying playing up her pregnancy to get Earl's partner to reveal his information. In this commedia the *WOMEN* were the ones pulling the strings. (Isn't that usually the case? ;-) )
This episode was all about acting and playing roles. That's why I loved the scene with Goren and Eames at the restaurant. His comments to the waitress about her being an actress were perfect coming from him, the detective who is always either acting or seeing through other peoples' acts. (As a double-entendre I think it's a nice prop from D'Onofrio (through Balcer's words) for aspiring actors and a reminder that he never forgets his past as a struggling character actor.)
And yes, Goren is humbled: he doesn't know the stinky Italian cheese by smell - he has to read the label, LOL!

You summed up perfectly why I don't watch or read the promos anymore. Either they reveal too much, or they are so misleading that it's hard to get into the story. I also find that I'm much more interested in watching the show when I don't know anything about the episode except what my imagination has come up with from the title. I decided to let Mr. Trisha have the remote last night, and with all your great insights I wish I'd watched this one a second time. I missed the first 10 minutes the first time this one aired, and was without vcr when it reran on USA. Now I really regret not enforcing my Sunday night tv dominance

Yes, I missed it this time, myself. I have it on tape, so maybe I'll re-watch this week. I love it when the actors get to act like they're acting. (Say THAT three times fast!) The casting was right on, story was engaging and I remember a couple of, "Huh?"s when watching it.

This episode was aired in Australia on Sunday night. I didn't really enjoy this episode. I managed to tape it so I am going home tonight to re-watch. I just found the storyline to be quite slow. I thought Alicia Coppola's performance was great but didn't think much if the guy (sorry, don't remember his name) who played Earl. I thought his acting was expressionless and quite dull. I loved Eames' comment to Goren when he was playing with the dead guy's neck - "you keep doing that I will drop this baby right here". For someone who is a detective, she doesn't have a very strong stomach! Just my opinion on the episode Kate ;D

Right from the beginning of this episode I knew that Earl was the killer. Why? Because he has been used 2 or 3 times on SVU (the actor) and each time his character was the criminal. It was too obvious - they re-use guest stars too often...

Yeah, I recognized him, he's often played a killer on L&O shows. He's got that Aryan white thug look down pat. He was also in The Extra Man, the man who beats up the guy who ends up dead.
