I just wanted to remind everyone that this Season 2 episode is scheduled for 8pm EST this evening on NBC Since I've not seen this episode, it's a new one for me and I hope others will want to discuss it.

Well, things do look promising. Its still on the schedule for tonight. I think it's a good episode; time well spent. The viewers are introduced to a friend of Goren's late father.

I haven't seen "Blink" before either, so I'm really looking forward to finally getting a Season 2 episode. I'm also game for a discussion afterward when I have time to get online again.

Soooo...Det. Goren didn't bring anyone to his father's funeral. And--I really have to work at getting this image out of my mind--during his 6 months tour of duty in South Korea, he put octopus tentacles up his nose. Hilarious indeed.
As for the final scene--Goren goes after the weak link in Ken's chain of fearlessness by getting his wife to declare her own fear for Ken's safety. After her confession of lack of faith in Ken, he realizes his wife has failed the "prayer warrior" test.
And Ken finally blinks--not only because he experiences fear for the first time, but also to "blink" her out of existence. When he asks ADA Carver for protection, it is for himself, not his wife and child. Ken is destined for solitary confinement, but his request for protection for himself is his personal declaration of isolation and alone-ness. He knows he will only have himself to rely on to survive in prison.
And then...there's the parting comments by Eames, Carver, and...Goren gets in the last word.

The friend of Goren's father interested me--he seemed a friendly, rather matter of fact man who appeared to be on good terms with the younger Goren.
And I probably need to see the episode again, but I thought the father's friend said that Eames wasn't the woman Goren brought to his father's funeral, or did Goren say he didn't bring anyone?
And the villain was very cold--not only did he seem not to care about protecting his wife and child, he actually brought them with him when he met his criminal associates.
Have to worry about the security at Major Case.
The episode seemed lighter in tone and atmosphere than most of Seasons 3 and 4.

Patcat, yes Det. Goren does seem to be on rather friendly terms with one of his late father's old cronies. So whatever issues he has with Dad hasn't affected any of his relationships with Dad's pals, at least not this one, which is a very good sign as to where he's at now.
I distinctly remember the friend turning to Eames and asking her if she was the one he (Goren) brought to the funeral. The friend says something about, and I'm paraphrasing, "If I haven't said this before, you are lovely." It's at this point that Goren remarks, looking and sounding a bit annoyed, and not looking up from his notes, "I didn't bring anyone to the funeral."

Yes, Techguy, I remember that now.
I wonder if Goren was annoyed because he thought his dad's friend might have been making a pass at Eames?

I think it was his brother who brought the "lovely" woman to the funeral -- going with my supposition that he likes to show off his success and harbors bitter feelings toward Dad, it makes sense for him to come to his funeral with arm candy.

Yea, I could see Brother Goren bringing the "lovely girl" to dad's funeral. OMG, this episode ROCKED! I loved the actor who portrayed Ken--he did fearless/arrogant very well. Also, I like how Goren and Emaes played off eachother in the bar, while cornering the two computer/math geeks. Hey, did anyone catch Rene Balcer's mug shot in the photos of the Isralie mob pix? I think it was a trivia question on the Reel.com site, and Rene was the one Eames said "Muderer" very pointedly --when she flipped his pic down! LOL! Loved Goren giving Eames a little of his background while he was in N.Korea--her face is hilarious. ( Also, Hacker-Eames... very cool) And I really perked my ears up when Goren's dad's friend subtely hit on Eames--and Goren annoyedly bites out " I didn't bring anyone to the funeral." I can't tell if he's miffed because the guy was hitting on Alex, or that the guy would think Goren would treat his dad's funeral as cause to find and bring a "date". *pats Bobby* Also, If I were Alex, I would have beaten Bobby for that fake-fall on the building! Talk about lousy place to test a suspect! I know why he did it of course, but still...if Ken had slipped...*shutter* Interesting fear/nervousness on Goren's face--I would have liked to have seen Eames' face when he pulled that stunt! And in the end, I really liked Goren finally pinning Ken--and getting the fear response out of him at last, when the one person who believed in him, crumbled. Great scene! I guess Bobby didn't have much sympathy for Ken, when Bobby says "Optimist." to Carver when he says "Maybe he's human after all.." Kinda cold, but appropriate reaction from Goren. Luved this Episode!

Well, I guess he doesn't see pyschopaths as human. Yet another morally squiggly statement from our usually deeply empathetic detective. They may not be perfect, or even good, but for dogs sake, they are humans. Thanks for mentioning the mug-shot, Meltex, I hadn't read that before. Also, if you managed to record this one, if you check the part on the building again, you'll see that Goren has his other hand holding a beam firmly. He wasn't really taking a chance, he was just checking for a "blink."

I'd always assumed whoever the woman was, she was either one of Mr. Goren's "acquaintances" or he was indeed, just trying to shmooze Alex a bit. The writers could have had Goren say "my brother brought a date" - but that might have been too much of a tid-bit; chuckle!

Perhaps Goren's father was one of these thrill takers who don't know any fear, and, like this guy, was willing to ignore his child (or children) and wife for his thrills.
