New MONK tonight, with John Turturro returning as his brother Adrian. And Monk goes trick or treating.

Last week ("Mr. Monk and Mrs. Monk") was the first episode of this season that I've managed to see. I've found a group of people who hold Monk parties int he dorm on Friday night, followed by whoever wants to can stay to watch SVU. Very fun!

Tony Shalhoub will appear on "Conan O'Brien" Monday night, roughly 12:30 AM Eastern time. Actually about seven minutes after midnight-thirty, I guess they delay for local news coverage.

Well, I saw the Christmas special tonight! A couple people drifted into the room to watch, which was fun. Like most Monks, the plot was predictable, a bit short on the characterization in this one though. I was hoping for something with the brother.
I thought Ted Levine did an excellent job in his role for this one. THe shock and regret at Harry dying, his role in the initial bank-robber's death, and then having to readjust everything. At the party, was Stottlemeyer really playing the guitar? I know sometimes they dub over, but it really did look like it was him, wow! (Also at that scene, Randy had a nice harmony before he got all high-school rocker.)
Must Randy always be such a doofus? They give him those moments when we see his capability as a police officer and can understand how he's kept his job, but then, Lord love him, that whole "picking teams" thing. I hope Jason Grey-Stanford has some more meaningful projects on the side that wouldn't be so frustrating. But maybe he gets a kick out of the role, in which case bless him.
Disappointed that Monk didn't open Trudy's present, but then realized that it was one thing they didn't neatly wrap up. Carry-over for later, perhaps? Credit for not going completely cliche.
A wish for a white Christmas is a bit trite and overdone, and Julie is a bit old to have that wistful "Is snow beautiful?" (very clunky writing). I know all about wishing for snow during the holidays--North Carolina, closest I've seen is ice on the trees-- and even though I'm gushy and sentimental I'm not that hokey.
Rock-polishing kit: Benjy shout-out!
Natalie was OK with this one, although the whole holiday sweater scene with Randy seemed kind of pointless. What does she mean moving in on Sharona's territory?!?! Still calling him "Mr. Monk", I don't think we can read too much into the peck on the cheek--though maybe chalk it up to a baby step, I remain convinced of the writer's long-view. I have to say, she really does look like an elf! Very pixie-ish face.
Anybody else catch this?

I saw it, Catbird, well, most of it. I loved Monk as Santa, and how little Trudy comforted him while he cried

BUMP! Quite appropriate, considering tonight's episode was "Mr. Monk Bumps His Head". Why would a town in Wyoming feature people with Southern accents? I will say that the waitress was a sweety, and the truck driver was also very nice.
The lady who played Cora, what else has she done? Normally I roll my eyes when sex humor is poking fun at someone, but Tony Shalhoub's facial reactions had me howling. Oh my God, that was some of the funniest stuff I've seen--"Come on. We got chores to do and love to make." And putting her face in Monk's cupped hands, and the kiss, I'm still giggling at that! But thing is, the actress was very good at eliciting a sense of loneliness. I'm not trying to excuse her manipulation, but how pitiful that she thought that was her only chance.

PS: Just had to add, when he found the pregnancy test at the waitresses apartment: "See, you pee on this end--" that was priceless!

Was I the only one with my hands over my mouth moaning "Noooo" at the end? Ted Levine broke my heart in this episode, somebody better nominate him for something after this. Oh my God...
At least they let Randy maintain his professionalism, are they slowly transitioning and growing the character? He stayed relatively cool and collected through the thing, supporting Stottlemeyer.
A production shout-out: Gerald was reading a novel and then complained about someone "ripping out the last two pages of a 'Diagnosis Murder' novel". I read an interview somewhere and the guy who's been commissioned to write novel adaptations of "Monk" is known for his "Diagnosis Murder" books. For the life of me I cannot remember the name, but I thought that was cool.

Was Cora his 'wife'?? She was Roseanne's sister, Jackie. Now, about tonight's new episode.... The guy playing the astronaut starred in a USA show last year or the year before, between seasons of "Monk". I think it was before "Kojak" filled the gap. "TOUCHING EVIL" was the name of the drama: another cop show, but different from anything I'd seen. Did anyone else happen to catch it? I was bummed when it never came back. I really liked the lead character, Creegan and I know I read one critic comparing him to Goren and someone else. Also can't remember the actor's name and I missed it at the beginning of the show tonight. Am I being too specific?? Jeez. I should ban myself from the computer after 11. Anyway. I looked around to see if by some fluke, that one, short season made it to DVD and my search brought a British series with the same characters. I may rent it just to see the comparison. Jeffery Donovan.

I loved Touching Evil. Jeffrey Donovan (who graduated from my college) has now found his way onto three of my top five favorite shows. He was on this episode of Monk, was Jarod's brother on The Pretender, and Sara's lover on Witchblade. All he needs to do is guest on CI and House to completely win me over (although he was on the mothership once). Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any plans for the show's DVD release at this time. But, you can always vote for it over on www.tvshowsondvd.com/.

I like Jeffrey Donovan. He gets very intense roles, though.
Another LOCI fan? Great!

I read where another holiday episode of Monk will be airing on December 22. I just watched the episode with his long lost father that aired on November 17.

New episodes start this Friday, July 13, at 9 pm EST on USA.
There have been suggestions that this may be the last season for MONK, including some comments by Tony Shalhoub. If it does end, I hope that Monk solves his wife's death and gets back on the force.

Don't usually watch this show but I caught an episode that just aired, with Sarah Silverman as the obsessive fan. Hilarious! Loved the part where she is telling him about past cases he's done, she's mentions one and says something like, 'oh wait, that wasn't an actual case. That's one I wrote. We call it FAN FICTION." LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! Reader but not writer of lots of LOCI fanfiction.......especially yours Patcat.
